Don1977 604 #1 Posted June 29, 2014 I was pulling some metal building steel to the back of my property when I heard the axle bearing protesting. I don't hear that well so I decided to change them. That went real well, but the belt came of the drive pulley while I had the trans/axle out. Removed the belt guard and found the top belt guide bent up at a 45 degree angle. Knocked it back down and cracked it so I took off the bracket and welded it. While I had it apart decided to fix the warped foot boards. They were bent down in the middle and gave ever time I stepped on them. I beat them back straight on an anvil with a rubber tire changing hammer to keep from damaging them. Then spot welded a 3/8" steel rod under the lip. They don't give now when I step on them. Will look a lot better when I get them clean up and and painted. I went ahead and put it back together to try out the new axle bearings.

JoeM 7,871 #3 Posted July 3, 2014 good rb fix, like it. Those rears are pretty easy to work on. I see some rust on the parts was it sitting a while? water in the gearbox? just wondered.

Don1977 604 #5 Posted July 3, 2014 good rb fix, like it. Those rears are pretty easy to work on. I see some rust on the parts was it sitting a while? water in the gearbox? just wondered. The transmission had some water in it but it wasn't that much. Don't know how long it was sitting, I got it from Van he may know more about how long it sat before he got it. Most of the rust was on the top of the housing at the fill tube, I got all that out.
Don1977 604 #6 Posted July 6, 2014 Got around to working on the front found the axle pivot pin tab broken. Pulled the front axle and welded the tab.doesn't look as nice as the original weld but it willl hold better. I also found the hood pivot rod welded in the front hitch. Ground down the welds and broke it loose with a punch and hammer. It was worn at the the hinges so I'll have to make another one. The small c-clip were gone and it had one small hose clamp on the rod, don't know why he didn't use two instead of welding the rod.
Don1977 604 #7 Posted July 11, 2014 Got around to putting some paint on this tractor. Wanted something a little different from stock so I made a few changed when painted the hood. Going to paint the wheels back to the right color as soon as I get some paint. This is a worker and looks pretty good from 25 feet even better if you are going by a 40 MPH . Not sure as to the year as all the ID tags were removed or painted over.
Wheel-N-It 2,968 #8 Posted July 11, 2014 Don, you got that ole' 312 looking really good! I apologize for the two parts that needed some repair. I didn't pick up on any of that during the week I had the tractor. Great pics! I do enjoy seeing it again
Don1977 604 #9 Posted July 19, 2014 Just about finished painting the 312. I painted the wheels, but darker then the original color. I used Dupli-Color Graphite Wheel paint.

Racinbob 11,030 #15 Posted July 21, 2014 I like the wheels too Don. Great job! I like the C120/180 too. Is that an 18hp on there (hence the name)?
Don1977 604 #16 Posted July 21, 2014 I like the wheels too Don. Great job! I like the C120/180 too. Is that an 18hp on there (hence the name)? Yes that's 18 HP Briggs Vanguard. It hasn't run out of power, over load the deck in high grass and it will smoke the belts.
Don1977 604 #17 Posted April 1, 2015 Update on 321-8 project. Added some new 25-900-12 All Trail II. had to modify the fender, raised it 1 3/4" and bend the foot board uprights forward on the out side to clear. Added a receiver hitch while raising the fender. It's attached to the top of the transmission and the axle housing. Also add 1/8" x1 1/2" to the top of the hood stand where the rear fender attaches they are only bolted with the original bolts, plan to weld them later. Added some 1/4" x 1 1/2" braces to the front of the transmission. Removed the rocker arm and cable and added a wench to lift rear equipment. Had a bent spindle and straightened it in the vice with a 6" long 1" pipe. Welded some 2" x 2" x 1/4" angle braces to the spindles. Here is the pictures. You can see the 1/8" steel under the shifter plate. Would need some holes with the height adjuster or hydro.
KevinG 5 #18 Posted April 2, 2015 I like your hitch set up you've got going on there. Also is that the 2500 pound winch from harbor freight? I was thinking about getting one of those although I've seen some mixed reviews on it
Don1977 604 #19 Posted April 2, 2015 All I can say about it as it works, I like the remote. Got it for $54 with tax if it works a couple of years I'll be happy. I built a pulverizer I could lift with both hands, but sometimes I couldn't get the lift arm to release. I ran the wiring through pvc pipe to up under the battery. I used it last fall to sow some grass be fore I painted it.
