JimL 11 #1 Posted June 27, 2014 The clutch on my 120 seems to slip, but yet I am out of a adjustment in the rod. The "Clutch" material seems to still be there, maybe 5/32" thick? Is something not put together right?
Desko 610 #2 Posted June 27, 2014 Adjust the rod the other way it should help had the same problem with the snow blower on mine and screwed it outwards then it was back to normal. Hope this helps.
JimL 11 #3 Posted June 27, 2014 other way? That would loosen it up when I press the lever forward to engage the deck.
Desko 610 #4 Posted June 27, 2014 Not arguing but I'd say no because it would give you a longer pull and apply more pressure just try it and see what happens screwing it inward loosens it I'm pretty sure.
Red-Bovine 316 #5 Posted June 28, 2014 Possible the pto slid in on the crankshaft causing the adjustment problem? Maybe loosen the set screw and move the pto out about 1/8"? Red
Callen 64 #6 Posted June 28, 2014 Had one slipping, took it apart and found that the bushing for the bell wasn't locked under the clips. It walked out past the seal and slung grease on the disc.
Ed Kennell 38,596 #7 Posted June 28, 2014 Possible the pto slid in on the crankshaft causing the adjustment problem? Maybe loosen the set screw and move the pto out about 1/8"? Red Gotta be this. You have it adjusted correctly and plenty of clutch material. The inner part of the PTO had to have moved in on the shaft.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,090 #8 Posted June 28, 2014 The transmission drive pulley set screws can not be tightened enough to hold the pulley if it is spaced out from the larger diameter on the crankshaft. The pto assembly exerts too much pressure when applied. They ran into this on the later CH engines and had to add a spacer behind the pulley to keep it there. I would take the pto off and make sure the snap ring behind the end bearing hasn't popped out of it's groove. If you do this take note of which way the snap ring was installed. One edge is rounded and the other side is square cut as a result of the stamping process when manufactured. The sharp edge should face in to stay in it's groove. If the rounded edge is in pressure can allow it slip out of the groove. Garry
Don1977 604 #9 Posted June 29, 2014 Take the PTO pulley off I suspect that the C-clip on the short shaft that attaches to the loop has come loose. May need a new short shaft and new C-clips. The other reason could be a bad bearing that the short shaft is attached two. Been there a couple of times in the last 37 years.

JimL 11 #12 Posted June 29, 2014 I am betting theres supposed to be a snap ring on this damn thing? Snap ring pushes agains the bearing right? I might head over to the shop early in the morning and make another one of these.
