snowhound 105 #1 Posted June 26, 2014 I picked up a 1973 Ranger 7 that I was going to have for my grand chrildren to run around the yard but after getting the engine running I've found that i won't move in any gear, The engine sounds like a load is being put on it when the clutch is release but the tractor doesn't move. I removed the rear wheels and found that only one axle had a key in it but the axles didn't turn when the clutch was released. Snowhound

SousaKerry 502 #3 Posted June 26, 2014 Sounds like you have some internal transmission issues. If you roll the tractor in neutral do you hear any unusual noises or does it move harder then expected? Those Peerless transmissions are not very stout but are very common. If you need a replacement it should not be hard to find one even from a different brand of tractor.
snowhound 105 #4 Posted June 27, 2014 No unusual noise and it rolls free I'm going to try to pull the shifter to see if there is problem with the fork and will put a key in the other axle to find out if that causes any strange noise. Ed (Snowhound)
snowhound 105 #5 Posted July 5, 2014 I pulled the unit and found the shifting arm wasn't correctly installed so it wasn't changing gears. Snowhound
