duke 49 #1 Posted June 11, 2014 Any one ever use John Deere Front Rims with the 1" spindle size on a D-Series?
alswagg 128 #2 Posted June 11, 2014 I have not, but I have converted both my FEL/BH ( Front end loader and Back hoe) As well as the standard D180 to tapered bearing 4 bolt rims. The bearing hub is a standard 1" trailer hub. I had to manufacture a 3/4 deep sleeve that was 1.25 od for the seal. This made the hub fit perfectly. The rims I used were from our old golf cart. Tires on the back hoe are 6 ply 5 rib. The standard has 4 ply oem style. This is an easy mod and should last for years and years. Al
duke 49 #3 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Say,what was the 3/4 deep sleeve for, where did it go? Do you have pictures? I've seen other 1" hub conversions but no sleeve for the seal? I got these here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131206509228?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT http://www.ebay.com/itm/190657822728?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Not too shabby... alswagg 128 #4 Posted June 12, 2014 Basically the later D series has a 1" shaft for the front spindles. The shaft is about 3/4" longer than a standard 4 bolt trailer hub. I simply cut a 3/4" sleeve from a 1" black pipe, 1" black pipe has an OD of 1.25 which is what the seal requires. Slide on the sleeve then the hub. Simply bolt the outer bolt and washer to the spindle. If you need to shim add or subtrac washers. The bolt should bottom against the shaft the bearings should be snug but not tight. I did the easy mod to both of my D series tractors. The sleeve keeps dust and dirt out of the bearings as well. Al
