IndianaMatt 34 #1 Posted June 10, 2014 Well, i got the 417 in the work shop tonight. I started to really look her over for the first time... It is really rough. It needs tons of work and I do not know where to start. I was originally going to start by tearing down the KT17 but after thinking about it I have changed my mind. I think I will start with body work and such, the reason being is that if I get her looking good I will be more motovated to finish it. I will include some pictures later. IndianaMatt 34 #7 Posted June 10, 2014 oh the KT was initially frozen. I pulled plugs and poured in some blaster 2 days later she turned right over. It is missing air cleaner, coil, coil wiring, plug wires, and some odds and ends. She needs LOTS of work. The guy that let this thing get this way should be shot.
pacer 3,168 #8 Posted June 10, 2014 I like your thinking -- these projects can really open a can of worms sometimes, getting several pieces cleaned up and painted would be good incentive to continue. By the way, a Kohler coil could be one of the items that could throw a shock at you - expensive! --- but, check out the coils for a Harley (the motorcycle) I'm running a $20 on my KT17 now. And when I couldnt find single plug wires, I noticed at the scrap yard I frequent that MANY of the cars/trucks scrapped were old enough to have the old style plug wires, so I grabbed a handful, no charge -- (the guy says "if it aint metal, we dont charge for it!")
IndianaMatt 34 #9 Posted June 11, 2014 I have been looking at ignition parts on Kirk Engines Inc. They have some aftermarket coils and stuff for the KT engines. Im thinking if Im going to put money into it I may as well go high performance.

JackC 617 #12 Posted June 11, 2014 Here are a few from my 1986 417A with the KT17 Series II. The air cleaner has been removed but the rest is all there. The service manual and parts websites would help also.
