Castenson 0 #1 Posted June 7, 2014 Looking at buying a WH. Both a c165 auto and a 312-8 available in about the same condition and about the same price. Is one better than the other despite the engine size. Is there anything I should look for when buying such as frequent problems. Thanks! Currently have a JD214
Sparky-(Admin) 22,007 #2 Posted June 7, 2014 I would prefer the C-165 personally (more HP). What are your plans? Just mowing, or maybe snow removal as well. The C-165 came with two hydro tranny's. The 1980 model had a Sundstrand and about midway thru that model year WH switched to the Eaton 1100 and used it for the 1981 thru 1984 machines. I would rather see the Eaton under the rear fender. 01-16KE01 1980 C Series Garden Tractor C-165 Automatic Kohler K341AS-71803D 16 Eaton 1100-032 01-16KS01 1980 C Series Garden Tractor C-165 Automatic Kohler K341AS-71803D 16 Sundstrand 90-1173 Mike.......... slammer302 2,156 #4 Posted June 7, 2014 The 312-8 is a very dependable and hard working unit and simple to work on its doesn't have all the perks as a c-165 auto but if you want simple and reliable nothing the matter with a 312-
Castenson 0 #5 Posted June 7, 2014 Thanks everyone. I might decide to move snow with it, but never had much luck with the jd214 w/ snow blower. Mostly mowing about two rough acres. Looking for a tough tractor to take some abuse.
