jdleach 525 #1 Posted June 2, 2014 Began thinking tonight (quite a dangerous proposition for me) about Wheel Horse tractor production, and wondered what happened to the records for total units produced by model and year. Did a bit of a search of the forum, and didn't turn anything up. Given that our tractors all came with both a model and serial number (perhaps the earliest ones did not), it stands to reason that some records were kept. In the case of International Harvester tractors, many of the records were preserved. So many, that I have been able to date to the month both of my Farmalls, an 1948 "H", and a 1929 Farmall Regular. The production figures were donated to the Wisconsin Historical Society for permanent keeping and preservation. In the case of Wheel Horse, I would speculate that those records were obtained by Toro upon their purchase. I wonder if they still have them, and if they could be accessed somehow. I suppose it is possible that they were "hauled to the dump" by Toro at some point, as often happens after a buyout and subsequent ending of production. If I remember correctly, just such an unfortunate event occured after the re-organization of the old Auburn-Cord auto company when the new firm left the automotive market. Anyone here, or at WHCC, ever attempt to find out this information?

If the numbers were available, it would be much easier to estimate the rarity of any given model or year.
