I also watch a ton of submarine movies...we all need to remember those that served.  One of the best ways to remember the ones that did not make it back...exercise your right to vote this fall.  That is the best thing you can do to remember...that is what they fought for.  :flags-waveusa: :flags-waveusa:

Karl...we have cemeteries here where I live that have veterans graves lined up like that.  All you need to do is go there and be silent for a while.  If that does not affect you...well you know what I mean.  I get tears in my eyes just typing this.  I can't tell you how many friends I lost in the Viet Nam war...or how many came back messed up.  I remember them more then just this weekend...I still see some of those that came back.  They will only talk about their experience after a few beers...it is like a deep, dark secret that they keep inside and have to let out once in a while.  I think that I am lucky to come through it unscathed sometimes...but, you know what, I really did not come through it unscathed.  GOD BLESS ALL OF THEM AND THOSE THAT STILL SERVE!!

I will never forget the first time that I visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1988. While there, I traced the names of two friends from high school - and was moved to tears.

 

My father was a wounded veteran from WWII. My brother and I still talk about my father's silence regarding his service during the war. Only one time did he speak of the details regarding the atrocities and bloodiness he witnessed.

Where I live is the Official U.S. Government recognized Birth Place of Memorial Day. They built a Civil War Memorial just a couple of years ago. The celebrate the next 2 weekends. Re-enactments, cannon fire, services, parades ect. They have a car show on Sunday and fill the downtown full of wheels. I used to display my tractors there but not any more. I only live 3 blocks away and would drive one down and go to get another only to come back and find out the local IH club wanted my spot and moved my stuff. I have had this done 3 yrs. in a row. Never again. I put my tractors out font of my house with a flag (or flags) planted near them. They also have a big vendor area and all of the imported junk you could find is there. I walk down and get some home made ice cream and look at the cars but's that's it. They have a parade on the 30th every year. This year I'll be home to see it.

Sorry guys, this is a Memorial day thread, I'm going to clean it up.  While politics are certainly sensitive when it comes to our military, this is intended to remember those who didn't return not presidential political issues or upcoming elections.

I know some of you guys have had a chance to read what I posted here...and that is OK.  I have decided to understand that this is not the place to express my views for the 3000 other guys and gals out there.  PM me if you want to know what I think.  :)

Their is absolutely nothing mare sobering than sitting up on one of the hills at Arlington National Cemetery and watching a full military funeral and then turning around and watching another one Like I had the opportunity to do in 1970, something that will stay with you forever.

This week I had the honor of placing this bronze plaque for a veteran that passed away 70 years ago. What a privilege it is to watch over our local cemeteries where so many of our veterans are laid to rest.

   God watched over me for the four years that I served in the Navy (and every day since) and I am His thankful servant. The greatest gifts we have been given are the privilege of living in nations where we have the fredoms of religion and pursuit of happiness. To all who have defended these gifts I say Thank You!
