Lawn ranger expired :( guess it had a good innings...

We know the little teccys aren't the strongest of engines, but well maintained they are pretty reliable.

The little lawn ranger on its 4th cut of the year decided to expire in relative style with a snapped con rod. It wasn't really even revving, but finally succumbed to old age.

:(

Based on overall reliability and availability of spares I'm probably going to swap it for a Briggs. The other two lawn rangers we have are on second engines, one being Briggs, the other a modern Tecumseh. The Briggs are great starters and pretty powerful for the size and weight.

Sparky

A nice little Kohler K181 would be a sweet modification to a Ranger.

I'll bet of the double dozens of B&S I rebuilt and dozen or less Tecumseh, I've had one or two B&S with broken rod and over half the Tecumseh with broken rods. I want bad mouth the Tecumseh as it did some good work on many Sears products and was less expensive, duh! The Kohler would be great but prob scarce over there. That really is sad, but your ranger will prob smile in the long run, much simpler engine will make him buck up his heels, yeeee haa! :handgestures-fingerscrossed:

Wheel-N-It

A good friend just sold his Lawn Ranger that had been repowered with a more modern OHV Tecky. It was a good little tractor and easy to start hot or cold.

the lawn rangers we have are the later models with the V70 vertical engine. The donor almost certainly has to be a B+S 7 or 8HP - my dad fitted an 8hp relatively easy to his.

Hmmm, I did not know that. Thank you!
