Tire and seat question.

Recommended Posts

DotheDoo

I was reading through past posts on tire suggestions and was able to find a site ( Miller Tire) which sells what I am looking for, but has any one ever try the Carlisle All Terrain tire? I currently have a turf tire on my 312  (23x8.50 12) but I loose traction easily going up a hill when mowing or detaching. I was wondering if this tire chews up the lawn?

Second, I have the low back WH seat but being 6'3" and 295 lbs, I need a seat with some upper back support. I am open for some ideas whether it's a WH seat, Northern tool or even Tractor Supply seat. It also needs to be adjustable moving forward and back.  I am not looking to get rid of the current seat. That will be wrapped and stored.

Thank you.

Robert

This is a Grizzly seat from Tractor Supply. It has the adjustment as well as armrests. This pic is as she came but I have since removed the adjuster and the armrests. Just my preference. The sku # is 0278302.

I run a set of 23 x 10.5's on one of my machines but its mainly for snow duty, I haven't mowed with it. It does get used for trailer duty as well and is driven across the lawn often with almost 75 pounds on each rear rim and it has never torn up the grass. It might if it didn't have the weights helping it "bite in" tho   :scratchead:  .
So far I am extremely satisfied with the tires!

That seat Racinbob has is the best! I've had one for over 10 years and it's the best tractor seat I ever sat on!

Just looked up that seat...OUCH...$150.

Not saying I wouldn't pay that for it but I was expecting a $80 price tag.

Yea, ouch! I just had to go pull the receipt and I paid $110 in 2009. That's quite a jump!

Racinbob, how did you fit it to your 520? Did you use the rails that came with it? I had mine on a cub. Today I tried to fit it on my 416 and the holes on the 416 rails didn't line up with the front to back distance of the holes on the seat.

Also, Northern tools (I think) has the same seat on sale for $99. At least in the picture it looks to be the same...But yeah, $150 would put me in divorce court.

Mike, the holes didn't line up. I didn't need or want the slide adjustment so I removed it. It's pretty easy to just determine where new holes need to be drilled. It's been my experience that most aftermarket seats don't line up to the Wheel Horse mounts. It's never been a biggie to just drill new holes. I really like the seat but part of the high cost was in the arm rests and the adjuster. I removed both. I guess I have goofy preferences. By the way, I don't have a 520 :crying-blue: It's a 2005 Classic GT. Best I could find down here at the time.

I have the 23x8.0-12 all trails on my 310-8, It seems to be pretty light on the lawn, unless if you drop the clutch in a high gear, or lock the brakes, I haven't made any marks on my lawn. They grip SO much better than the turf savers though.

oh, and they are CHEAP on amazon, with free shipping, check the prices! :handgestures-thumbupright:

but regardless, you can't go wrong with the all trails. :handgestures-thumbupright:

Quick glance at the tractor, my eyes were glued on to the seat! You've got a real nice looking tractor there! I don't think that I need the adjusters either, but I do like the extra height that I get with them.

I got some seat springs out of a mower junkyard and bolted them to the seat pan of my 160. Then the seat bolted right onto the springs.

Looks good Mike! I am going back to work on fitting that seat to the 416. I got to get that seat on it!

Tom, those tires look real good on your tractor; aggressive tread without detracting too far from the original turf look.
