418 vs 520

Recommended Posts

cod

Just found a Toro 520 for sale nearby and I'm wondering if I should ditch my 418A.  The 520 is a hydro and has less than 900 hours and as the 418 has almost 1800, I might be spared the hassle of rebuilding the Kolher.  I've seen that the 520's seem to have a number of electrical woes, burn more gas and the Onan's can be touchy but perhaps they relate more to having an older tractor and how it was broken in.

So any thoughts or comments would be welcome and as it's Mother's Day, I may not be able to respond till later this week as "she who must obeyed" has plans that require my full attention...  ;-)

Go for the 520.....sounds like a nice Mothers Day gift for "she who must be obeyed".  Keep the 418 for yourself.   :handgestures-thumbupright:

Keep both........

The kohler series II is better than the onan in my opinion.

Keep both. The ideal is a two tractor plan.

Ya never know... At 900 hrs.you may wind up having to rebuild the Onan before the Kohler.

Ken is right. You better hang on to that 418.

I agree with Van. It is ALWAYS a GOOD idea to have a backup tractor.......you never know when you might need it. Right now I have a B 80 that threw a rod, a C 165 that is still having carb issues even after a rebuild and a 417 with a broken governor gear. My 416 is the tractor right now.

Once you sit on the 520H and start and hear the ONAN it will become your favorite.  Do keep the 418A for back up and for other attachments ready to go.

The horses like company especially when they are not feeling well and many parts are interchangeable to provide back up part sourcing and to minimize down time.

Not just a good idea, a must. One Horse might need a break from too much work. Then you could use the other; i.e.: plow with one, run the disks with the other, mow with one, sweep with the spare. Makes perfect sense to my Sons and Grandsons, me too!

Gotta love the sound of the purring 20 hp Onan. The ride with the swept axle just feels different or, my imagination. Still you need at least two Horses, one Stallion might get lonely and run off someday! Have a heart, get your Horse a "buddy."   :laughing-rofl:

Well gents, thanks for the advice although it seems that the Multiple Horse Virus is rampant here!

I waffled for too long (24hrs) and the beast was gone.  The old saying "you snooze, you lose" is still true so next time...
