edwroy 138 #1 Posted May 9, 2014 Ebay find - 1983 Wheel Horse C175 twin - advertised as non-running - $ 500.00. Picked it up - hit it with started fluid - turned on the gas valve - started right up. Mowed the lawn with it. No leaks. Needs some maintenance.
boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted May 9, 2014 Nice! Pretty nice performance for a non-running tractor! Now ditch the plastic fender for a metal one and have at it!

Racinbob 11,034 #7 Posted May 9, 2014 That looks sweet! The seller thought it was broke because of the fuel valve being shut? If so. good for you!!!
JackC 617 #8 Posted May 9, 2014 Very nice C-175. The plastic fender size and lines were designed to harmonize with the size and lines of the hood. Many prefer the metal fender but from a design balance point of view the scale of the metal fender is small relative to the hood. With the plastic fender, filling the tank requires a long neck on the gas can due to the tall lip of the fender by the tank opening. Great find.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,497 #10 Posted May 9, 2014 WOW!!! Another great find. Best of luck and thanks for sharing. For every really great find that has been made and posted lately, dont forget the other side of the coin.. boovuc 1,090 #11 Posted May 9, 2014 Jack is correct in why WH designers went with the fiberglass rear tub. For comparison, here is my 1983 C-175 with a regular metal rear fender pan. My tires are wider than stock so that is why they are a bit sticky-outy! You don't see too many 31 year old C Series in that condition for sale by a non-member. That is a great find! Congratulations! Fun Engineer 859 #13 Posted May 9, 2014 We don't find them like that up here in the Rust Belt. If that Fender doesn't have any cracks in it and it's going to be a worker I would remove it to preserve it, otherwise I'd leave it on. it does complete the look. 546cowboy 301 #14 Posted May 9, 2014 Being from Indiana my self, that is one great find in your area. I have gone down to Indy and Terre Haute to get some Horses and they never were in that kind of shape. Most I've got from down there didn't run either. But none were easy fixes like that and I have never seen a plastic seat pan that wasn't cracked and scratched up or faded. You are one lucky Hoosier.
Stigian 1,234 #16 Posted May 10, 2014 A very nice deal for a non runner

AMC RULES 37,125 #18 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) Looks like you've scored...the twin(no pun)to mine. Has a mint plastic pan and high back seat, but I swapped them for the steel 520 version. Edited May 11, 2014 by AMC RULES

Fordiesel69 259 #20 Posted May 12, 2014 That appears to be a series one KT17. If so operate it only on flat ground and add 1/4 qt overfull on the oil and you should be OK. Operating on hills will make your KT17 pop a connecting rod.
edwroy 138 #21 Posted May 13, 2014 How can I tell if the engine is a KT17 series one - can I check serial numbers?
AMC RULES 37,125 #22 Posted May 13, 2014 (edited) I think I've read, if it ends over three hundred. Post your serial number here. Looks like your picts show a yard custom made for a Series 1. Edited May 13, 2014 by AMC RULES
boovuc 1,090 #23 Posted May 13, 2014 The specification number of the Series I KT 17 is "24299 and lower. The full pressurized Series II KT17 spec# is 24300 and higher. Kohler loved to tell the world that their KT was a Series II also by labeling it as such on the outer engine shroud on the fly wheel side which yours isn't. Some replacement engines were not labeled and some folks like to use Series II shrouds on their Series I motors so so it is best to check your Spec Number on the engine tag.
