Opinion on rim color (not linen beige)

Hey all, I have been thinking about what to do with the rims as far as paint on my 1054. I'm not a purist so a different color doesn't bother me. The paint on the tractor itself is a nuttin-special rattle can job so the rims will be the same   . Not to mention I have no painting skills!

I started out with these nasty rims...

 

 

I decided to try a flat black finish with a shiny silver ring around the outside of the rim. The seat frame is silver so its not the only silver on the machine.

Any thoughts?? Looks good/OK/lousy?

What about the hubs? Would you paint em black...leave em red...or what? I can handle criticism   .

I would go with the original colors. It just looks right. My grandpa had one of these nice old tractors!

If you decide to keep the centers black that would good but I would paint the "rim" portion silver and only the center area silver. That would give it a 2 piece wheel look like the old economy tractors. I painted the rims in my 953 Navajo white in gloss using a brush and I really think it looks nice. When I paint my rims black I go with a satin rusto black which IMO is the look you are going for. The gloss black looks too new and really no right for you tractor unless everything else was re painted. You want to make it look like the rims have always been that color.

I really like gloss white. To me it really looks nice on Big Tires. Just my opinion. I'm sure any thing you do to spruce it up will make

it look better.

Hop on down to Home Depot and grab a few spray cans of Rustoleum Antique White and call it done. It just looks right IMHO.

 

By the way, did I miss where you found this one? I like it...

I like it, I think you should paint the hub centers and lug nuts silver too.

 

As always on this site you will find 10 people with 8 different opinions, two of them being "original or else!"

So I took some of the advise and kicked it up to a semi-gloss, painted the hub the same and shot the lugs silver to match the silver on the rim. I hate bright white rims (no offence to you guys who do it).

I'm happy with this scheme and will try to have the rest of the rims done by the Scantic Valley show in Somers....maybe...  ....work has me flying across the country again this week!

Ken, rolled this one home from right next door at Tony's place! I had mentioned that I wanted something from the mid-sixties and he said "how about this one"...we worked out a trade for a tractor I had that he wanted and the rest is history.

I do like that better than the red hubs and lug nuts. What about painting the hubs silver and leave the ends of the axles black?

Finished off all 4 rims today. I like it and this is probably the finished product ( I do wonder if the hubs shoulda been silver tho   ?). Next to be painted is the exhaust.

I vote for the silver hubs (just as I did before ) but its looking good still!

Then your stack needs a coat of silver... that would tie that tractor right up!

And if you want to go all out, engine same color black with a silver flywheel screen...

And like everything I do this is a low budget paint project so I use what's in stock in my paint cabinet. The only hi-temp paint was black so that's what the exhaust got this afternoon.

Black always works well, I used matte black though because I like it
