Repairing ripped out seat nuts

Recommended Posts

over60pirate

The seat on my 414-8 fell off the other day. The 4 "nuts" ripped out of the square openings in the seat. tearing the seat pan, at the corners of the openings where the nuts were.

Repair ideas:

1. Weld a 5/16" nut to a fender washer, and weld the washer to the seat .

2. Weld 2, 5/16" nuts to a 1/8" x 1" steel bar, and weld the bar to the seat. 2 bars needed.

Any other ideas?

Idea #1 sounds good, maybe inverted so you won't see the :wh: nut.  :handgestures-thumbsup:

I pulled off the vinyl and foam and migged 1/4 bar stock inside and tapped with fine thread to make this seat fit the brackets on my project tractor.

I think either of your ways will work.

I too pulled the cover and foam off the steel pan.

MIG'd steel and tapped holes in the 1/4" thick flatbar that I used.  Easy repair.  :)

If the seat wasn't  WH embossed, just pickup a new one at Tractor Supply.
