Coating under side of mower deck

Recommended Posts

Was talking last night to a buddy about what is good for redoing under side of deck, he told me he power washes his and sprays them with truck bedliner. Has anyone else tried this, and if so, how does it hold up?

I've done the truck bed liner on mine but if I had it to do again I would use van sickle easy slide its a graphite coating that keeps grass and water from sticking to what ever you put it on its supposed to be great stuff

Many of us just wire wheel them down to bare metal...

then coat a couple times through out the mowing season with used motor oil.

... or WD-40, although old motor oil sounds like a good idea now that I think of it.

With the bedliner spray and other coatings, I would worry about moisture getting trapped underneath and causing rust problems.  I think the key is to scrape the grass clippings out after every use, and take the deck off and give it a more thorough cleaning once or twice a year.

Not saying I do that religiously, which is why every few years I have to take the deck to a welder to patch some areas.  But both of my :wh: decks are close to 30 years old, I must be doing something right. :)

I have tried all kinds of things, paints, oil, epoxy, roof tar,i have some very dry areas that end up sandblasting the bottom, nothing lasts a whole season, not even thick epoxy,so its a good idea too keep them clean

My strategy is spare decks.
