jackhammer 546 #1 Posted May 1, 2014 (edited) Looking thru the model years I noticed the 418 only was made for 1 year . Members with the resources might be able to fill in these 2 questions ,, About How many were produced ?? and for what reason would you think production was limited to 1 year. ??? Thanks jackhammer Rick Edited May 1, 2014 by jackhammer
dennist 139 #2 Posted May 1, 2014 I can't answer your questions, but the 418 is one of my favorites for sure. The last one I had was very clean well kept and I used my tiller with it. That thing was so smooth and sounded great, I am always looking for those.

leeave96 487 #5 Posted May 1, 2014 I think (I think) the switch to Onan ended the Kohler Magnum twin run in the Wheelhorse. I'd say a 18 hp Magnum twin powered Wheelhorse would be one of the great combo's Wheelhorse ever made.
darg 7 #6 Posted May 1, 2014 I think the 418 is the same as the117 except the engine name. very fine tractors darg
JackC 617 #7 Posted May 2, 2014 Wheel Horse switched to ONAN engines in 1988 because they had more torque at lower RPM which was needed for the big 60 inch decks under the 520 Series tractors.
jackhammer 546 #8 Posted May 2, 2014 Thanks for the replies guys. Any other differences ? That's pretty much what I thought but am not schooled enough on the subject to really understand why. The 417A I have has aluminum heads - does the twin cylinder 18 have alum or cast with the magnum . Axles front and back any different or are they the same on both ?? just curious . darg 7 #9 Posted May 2, 2014 The 418A that I have had the kohler mag 18 with alum heads and case. I think the axles are the same as the 417, but not fore sure. darg
