ztman 0 #1 Posted April 28, 2014 Hi, I am new to the forum and just picked up a 1996 520 H . This is my first Wheelhorse. I noticed the ground speed seems to be slow. Are there any adjustments to speed up the mower? Model number is 73502, serial number 6900910 thanks
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,137 #2 Posted April 29, 2014 Operator manual but don't think it covers your problem Have often heard of grass clippings and dirt getting stuck in the shift linkage restricting it's travel. Manual on the hydro Garry
ztman 0 #3 Posted April 29, 2014 Thanks, I will check it out. My motion control lever is on the steering column, not between you legs like in some of the diagrams in the manual. I will take a look under the sheet metal to see if anything is restricting travel.
cheesegrader 433 #4 Posted May 8, 2014 ztman, The lever is on the column, but most of the linkage is under the black cover plate between your legs. It can clog. I had a similar problem with my '96 520. The cam that adjusts forward/reverse speed is under the seat. Mine had what felt like creosote all over it. Cleaned it off, blocked up the rear end, and made the adjustments acording to the hydro manual so that the rear wheels come to a complete stop in neutral, and it has been fine ever since. ztman 0 #5 Posted May 8, 2014 Thanks, I will try the adjustment. Saw the linkage under the seat, but didnt have an opportunity to track down the specific instructions in the hydro manual.
JackC 617 #6 Posted May 14, 2014 Once you check everything out, Maybe use a GPS to measure ground speed. Hook the GPS up to the battery. Top speed should be 5.6 mph according to the sales brochure. Has anyone tried that?
