shallowwatersailor 3,213 #2 Posted April 25, 2014 The Speedway was made in the '40s and '50s with that a reel is 32." It was intended as a commercial mower ( their ZTR!) rated at 15 acres a day with a top speed of 7 mph. The 14r6 has a history of the coil causing problems. They were made in Prophetstown, IL which is out towards the Quad Cities. It looks to be in great shape and has the optional sulky. Attached is a website with some information. More can be found on other tractor forums. http://www.angelfire.com/planet/eclipsereelmowers/index.html
Fun Engineer 859 #3 Posted April 25, 2014 Thanks shallow... I've been to that site and determined it was made between 51-59. Unfortunately their email is no longer valid. I'm trying to determine its value so I can offer the owner, a college student a fair price. Any ideas? I've also posted this on MyTractorForum and mylawnmowerform. Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #5 Posted April 26, 2014 Those eclipse mowers are great! I have an eclipse rocket and it's fun to mess with! As far as value it's worth whatever your willing to pay. Does it run? Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
Fun Engineer 859 #6 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) It looks even better in person. Sorry for the crappy pictures. There is lots of grease protecting that pretty orange paint. The clutch and gearing is really cool. Drive tires look like new. The center pivoting tire is shot. I was told it runs. I only had a few minutes to look at it before leaving town. The guy that owns it is a college student so his dad was showing it to me. Too many younger brothers (4) in the way to really mess with it plus I had to go. I want to make a reasonable offer but I also want a good deal Sent from my tractor seat using Tapatalk 2 Edited April 26, 2014 by Fun Engineer
Mike'sHorseBarn 2,998 #7 Posted April 26, 2014 Well I can't blame you for that! It is one of the more uncommon models and I paid $40 for my eclipse rocket so I hope that helps a little. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
RMCIII 838 #8 Posted April 27, 2014 Anything with "Speedway" as a name has to be good.... LOL... Speedway made a name for themselves with a few models of snowmobiles..... 340, 440, 650.... They were animals.... Especially the 650 with the upgraded heads you could order directly from the company.....
