boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted April 21, 2014 You will get a lot of different opinions but generally, all you ever have to run in the rears of the 4 or 8 speed manual rears is a good quality 80w-90 gear oil. That's about it! I don't know what tractor you have so I can't comment on quantity. However, you can never get all the old gear oil out so whatever the manual says, it is going to be less. stevasaurus 22,878 #6 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) It should have a fill hole plug on the side of the trans...about an 1" up from the bottom. Most are on the left side near the axle housing. Your trans should take about 1 1/2 qts. Fill through the shifter hole, or take off the seat and fill through one of the seat bolt holes...if you do not have a dip stick...easiest way to do this. Fill until oil starts to run out that fill hole. Boomshakalaka!!! Being in Virginia...I would use the 80/90 wt oil.
