(still cut grass with it ) It was going to be my restoration project.. just love this thing!!! but my wife wants something "safer" with kids around.. So I am looking to sell it or trade it for more modern working tractor with a deck n such.. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated..
AMC RULES 37,125 #2 Posted April 19, 2014 You're kidding me... there is no way I would even consider getting rid of that tractor. Nothing you buy today will still be around 48 years from now. Just Give it a bath, she'll think you got a new tractor.
JackC 617 #3 Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) That is a beauty and still in good original condition. We Wheel Horse folks often have several horses in our stables. If you really like it why get rid of it? You probably won't get more than a few hundred for it and I would keep it and get another one for your wife. To some of us they become family members just like pets. It can also serve as a back up for any other machine you may purchase that will not be as well built. They are one of the best examples of all American quality and engineering for its day. By the way, that is a great picture. You and that machine look like you were made for each other. I would keep it. I hate to admit how many I have. Edited April 19, 2014 by JackC

AMC RULES 37,125 #5 Posted April 19, 2014 Hide it... put a table lamp on it, and park it in the living room.
daveoman1966 3,745 #6 Posted April 19, 2014 You've had several replies telling you to keep it. Let me be the several'nth. Thats a great ole' machine and there is simply NOTHING made today to compare with it. I gotta believe if you sell or trade it off, there'll soon be a day of regret. Keep it.... you'll be vary hard-pressed to find a better one.

For me has to be like a glock .. go bang when you turn the key .. and would be nice to be able to attach a plow to it.. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated.. Racinbob 11,034 #8 Posted April 19, 2014 By safer do you mean all the safety switches on the newer units? I would think in your area that you could find a newer Wheel Horse with that stuff on it for less than some of the junk at the big box stores. Then you'd have a machine that will out last and out work a dozen of those 'lawn mowers'. I agree with the others here, DON'T get rid of the 876.
Jrblanke 857 #9 Posted April 19, 2014 I am with everyone else on this one. If you have the room, keep the 876. I have an 876 (not running yet) and I am looking forward to mowing with it. I would recommend a 300, 400, or 500 series tractor. I am using a 314-8 speed and it has 2 safety features that most newer riding mowers have which is a seat pressure switch (mower will cut off if you fall off) and a PTO switch (mower will not turn on if blades are engaged). I would assume that your wife would want a hydro, which could be a bit more difficult to find, and when you do find them they will be expensive (but still less than a new "tractor" from your big box stores). You should be able to find a plow to fit one of those tractors for less than 200 bucks ($150 would be average price in my area).
