groundhog47 347 #1 Posted March 20, 2014 USPS no longer has 1st class package shipping, it's gone to priority or flat rate. Man those prices are up there. Tried a shipping agent for a 10x8x8 5lb box and they quoted 126.00. Am waiting to see if the place pacer Bill found, Fastenal will have a better rate. Well just another one of those passed things can be remembered "back in the good ole days". I always want to know what sumptin costs before I bite, now I'll ask "what's it cost to ship" . 312Hydro 474 #2 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Will it fit in the 12x12x6 box? That's 17.45 flat rate priority mail.http://postcalc.usps.com/ Not knowing the destination I'm guessing at your quoted price it's headed to England! groundhog47 347 #3 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) No, That was just to Missouri. I think they just use one truck and no matter how small charge the full truck rate. It was 10x8x8 and only 5 lbs. It'll fit in the 12.00 something medium rate box, but was trying to get a cheaper rate, not anymore!! I shipped 4lbs to Norway in a bigger box last year for I think 25.00, first class. I will get a rate from Fastenal before weekend just in case! Will it fit in the 12x12x6 box? That's 17.45 flat rate priority mail.http://postcalc.usps.com/ Not knowing the destination I'm guessing at your quoted price it's headed to England! neil 2,409 #4 Posted March 21, 2014 Do Fastenal do international shipping ?
squonk 41,010 #5 Posted March 21, 2014 Do Fastenal do international shipping ? I don't know about that. I think the main reason they were so cheap in the other thread is because the trucks are all ready running store to store and had room on them and they figured out they could make some money selling the space. Is Fastenal even in England? If it will fit in a USPS flat rate box ship it that way. Automatic Ins. up to $100 is included in the price and 3 day guarenteed delivery. Coadster32 793 #6 Posted March 21, 2014 maybe you need to remind them of their advertising....if it fits, it ships. Don't take no for an answer..

64s 83 #8 Posted March 21, 2014 For the size and weight of what you are shipping, you're not going to find anything cheaper as long as it fits into a flat rate box. By the way, USPS still does first class packages, now it has to be under 13 ounces. But all in all, all the shipping prices have gone up - its the gas. groundhog47 347 #10 Posted March 21, 2014 Do Fastenal do international shipping ? Do not know, but am sure if they have stores/outlets they could possibly have partial loads that need gaps filled. Give them a holler and they say yes
groundhog47 347 #11 Posted March 21, 2014 maybe you need to remind them of their advertising....if it fits, it ships. Don't take no for an answer.. To defend USPS that is true, they just dropped first class and all packages other than book rate is flat rate or priority. I mean it's ok but for $.75 you have to pay over $12.00. These business shippers must get a special rate

Yup but am looking at 5lbs, I'll just have to bite the bullet but hate that for my buyers, and then paypal grabs a of total, gripe, gripe, gripe. Just thanks to all who buy and put up with the shipping charges

rmaynard 15,408 #14 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Why not ship it USPS Parcel Select? 5 lbs is only $8.65. Edited March 21, 2014 by rmaynard
groundhog47 347 #15 Posted March 22, 2014 (edited) Why not ship it USPS Parcel Select? 5 lbs is only $8.65. Could not find that option on USPS site, local shipper said all they had was priority shipping, but I'll certainly look into that in morning. Thanks Well online search says it's for business only like ebay, but they say you can go to stamps.com and print a select label. Mention is made of a standard post which will look into also. Haven't gotten my Fastenal quote in yet Edited March 22, 2014 by groundhog47
squonk 41,010 #16 Posted March 22, 2014 I shipped a WH seat halfway across the country for $32.00 with UPS. that was like 5 month's ago. What the heck are you shipping?
rmaynard 15,408 #17 Posted March 22, 2014 I use PayPal to ship everything. PayPal and eBay offer discount shipping through most carriers. When using PayPal, you can choose any shipping option including Parcel Select which replaced Parcel Post. Up to a certain weight, Parcel Select is your best option, then Priority Mail is cheaper. And with Priority Mail, many size boxes are free, you can have them shipped to your house, and you can schedule the carrier to come to your door to pick up the outgoing packages.
rmaynard 15,408 #18 Posted March 22, 2014 Just another note, I encourage people to avoid such places as the UPS store and other private shipping services. They talk a big story, but in many cases charge triple the published rate of the carrier you choose. I was dropping off a prepaid UPS package at the UPS store last month and a guy was wanting to ship his suitcase to the hotel he was going to. The quote was over $250.00. I checked the rate to ship a 50 lb package to the same city using the PayPal rate calculator, and it came to less than $65.00.
squonk 41,010 #19 Posted March 22, 2014 I would not be surprised Bob if that store's owner was giving the shaft. I have a UPS store near work. I shipped a 10" plow to Dresden Guy for $35.00 a couple of years ago using the store. The store owner gave me some tips on taking it apart and making it smaller. He has since retired. I shipped a Simplicity grader blade to CT for about $75.00 using the store within the past year. And shipped 2 seats 1 to Neb. and one to Brrly in Ohio for less than $35.00. I have another to ship and will report back on what it costs today.
rmaynard 15,408 #20 Posted March 22, 2014 Another thing, UPS always insures the first $100.00 for free. My UPS store tries to charge you $2.50. I called him on it and he said that the UPS "free" insurance isn't as good as his. WTF? When I contacted UPS they said that each store is independently owned, and rates are set by the store, not UPS. I only use them now for drop off of pre-paid items, and I make him give me a printed UPS receipt for proof of delivery.
squonk 41,010 #21 Posted March 22, 2014 Stopped at UPS store. For them to pack and ship a seat from NY to PA was $45.00. I saved 10 bucks and I'm packing it myself.

Mike, why don't you pack it up yourself, then go to PayPal.com/shipnow and create a shipping label. I bet it will be cheaper.

Nope, just sign in to your PayPal account and it's one of your choices if shipping via the USPS.
