indywheelhorsenut 62 #1 Posted March 20, 2014 So I logged onto craigslist this morning... just surfing... should have been working Did my usual Wheel horse wheelhorse search and I found a 314-8 (73449) with 169 hours.... original family owned it... for $500 Seat is perfect, everything works... just has that grass cutting patina on it... How do I spell SWEET?? Easy.. STEAL A WHEEL HORSE on a Thursday afternoon... Yes, I paid full price, didn't even try to negotiate.... Taking it home now to wash it.. (really needs that) and explain to momma what a smart guy she married... hope she listens just a bit before I get, "the look".. But hey, she benefitted all winter long from the plowing my '74 C-160 Auto did.... and this one is so quiet I might get her back to an occasional afternoon mow! --- that's about the best I can hope for from her in the afternoon anymore... Okay... had to share!
groundhog47 347 #2 Posted March 20, 2014 (edited) Proud for ya , like to know a smile is generated and some day I'll get a smile other than on parts. Usually everything I see for good price is bad quality and sorta outa my working capability till get a barn. My friend nearby, pacer Bill takes those dead ones I pass on and makes em like beauty queens. Edited March 20, 2014 by groundhog47

prondzy 3,881 #10 Posted March 21, 2014 congrats on the score! I am glad that someone else finally sees buying a wheel horse the same way I do when it comes to dealing with the wife : It is easier to beg for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission!

cruisnblue48 835 #13 Posted March 21, 2014 (edited) Thanks for sharing. Yes sirree, I get it. The exact same thing happened to me two years ago. I bought a 1995 314-8 speed with mower deck and snow blower attachments for $500 on my local clist. I got one heck of a bargain and I knew it. I almost felt guilty as if I was stealing it as I drove away with it on my trailer. And I also got "the look" at that time from the other half. But I tell you what... My "new" 314-8 is the greatest, most reliable worker that I have ever owned. Now the wife appreciates a well manicured lawn, so all is swell here in my tractor world once again. I always expect to get "the look" whenever a lonely, unwanted horse follows me home. Edited March 21, 2014 by cruisnblue48

indywheelhorsenut 62 #20 Posted March 22, 2014 Ssoooo...how bad was the look?? :*****: Not too bad last night... but definitely worse tonight when she asked me when I plan to sell my C-160 now that I have this one.... and I replied, "why would I need to sell one".. tomorrow I think I will begin the process of employing the idea of keeping both because no one knows when this one will break down... or, that the C-160 is now the snow tractor and this one is now the lawn tractor... maybe a combo package... who knows, I will resort to anything! cruisnblue48 835 #22 Posted March 22, 2014 (edited) Very nice wh tractor... you got a great deal, no doubt! Nothing wrong with owning two tractors. Heck, I now own eight Wheel Horse tractors and I'm always looking for another bargain. Let her think one is hers... see if she'll buy that.
