Am i pulling the right way? Clockwise? Counterclockwise?

I will fell like an idiot if  I am not. Got the kohler k181s bolted in the tractor. I did not hook up any grounds, etc. I have the points and condenser hooked up the coil and fuel. that is it.

With my fingers crossed turned the fuel valve on. No leaks......bonus. Since I don't have battery hooked up im manually trying to start with a rope. Gave it a few yanks not even a cough. Checked for fuel delivery and not a problem. Checked spark,,,,,,,,,,,seems nothing. Question..........am I pulling the engine over the wrong way? Im pulling from the bottom of the flywheel up and outwards making the flywheel go clockwise. Is it the other direction??  Do I need a ground wire from engine to negative on battery for spark? They run counterclockwise don't they? Im pulling the wrong direction. Did I just flodd the engine with fuel through the fuel pump????

They run clockwise on the flywheel side. You will need to ground the battery to the tractor or engine . Do you have power to the coil from the battery?

So regardless even if i'm not using the electric start I should ground the motor to the battery via a ground cable for spark? if that is why I have no spark then that would explain a lot. I just have it bolted to the frame. I do not have power from battery to coil........problem? LOL

 

as for the points and condenser wires.......is ok that they are touching at the coil?

Yes you have to ground battery. Your condenser and point wire connect to neg side of coil and you have to have wire from  power source from  battery  or ignition switch to pos side of coil for spark.

BINGO!!! with wires hooked up.....1st pull a sputter and 2nd pull we were off and running. Running pretty smoothly as well. I am very happy right now. This was a nail biter for me. Hope to get the fine tuning done this week.
