Anyway...I take it the set screw is even with the trans case and the shifter is in the hole??? This is not good at all!!! I hope you are sitting down, Those set screws are hardened steel. You may have to drop the trans to be able to get a carbide drill bit in line so as to be able to drill it out. If you can get a carbide, reverse drill...it may just back out for you. A carbide bit in a Dremmel tool may cut a slot that you can use a small screwdriver to get it. Here is another thought...buy a lotto ticket if this works. If the shifter is where it is supposed to be...and works...then just use it the way it is. The screw may just back out enough to be able to grab a hold of it as you use the horse. You will know because the shifter will get sloppy again. That screw will go all the way through the other side of the hole also...if you can grab the point end. Good luck man...let us know. jeff w 4 #3 Posted March 3, 2014 Was doing a test run w/out the dust boot which I need to get...insert shift lever and lined up w theOLD dog screw and began threading w fingers w no tension and dog broke and it was in the lever so cant remove lever or old screw.about 1 thread is exposed but tried everything and no luck to get a hold of.When you move shift lever around the screw moves a bit but not out. stevasaurus 22,878 #6 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Short of dropping the trans to have the room to attack this the right way...you might try this very Rube Goldberg idea. Roll a piece of masking tape around the end of the same size screw...I think it is 5/16"...leaving the tape stick over the end about 1/8". Dab the end into some JB Weld and line it up with your set screw end. Kind of like welding a short screw onto your set screw...make sure it cures before you try to turn it out. I think I would use a short 1/4" screw for this...be careful not to get any JB on the case. If you only had this in hand tight...it just may turn out enough to grab it.
