D Series Rear Hubs

Recommended Posts

Hello Folks,

Looking at an 18 auto I recently acquired and noticed the rear hubs are installed

differently.  I suspect they were removed (probably with a hammer) when the PO

repainted the machine and was looking for an opinion about how far they should be

installed.  I suspect having the hub flush with the axel would be correct, but I just

want to be sure.

Here's the pics of both sides.

Thanks for your help,

Carl

These should have plastic axle cover tubes part #103406 that slip over the axle prior to the hubs. These will only allow the hubs to go on so far until they are flush with the axle.  Mark.

What diameter is the axle these hubs fit. Reason I ask is I have a new set of six lug wheels I would like to use on a 1056 tractor but I wasn't sure if there were any 6 lug hubs that would fit that tranny.

I've seen the tubes called out in parts diagrams, but have never seen them on a machine or for sale, so I'll have to put them on the long acquisition list.

The axel diameter is 1 1/8 in.   I don't know if there are any for smaller shafts.

Carl, my 1977 D-200 doesn't have the tubes on the rear axles and I'm pretty sure I was the first owner to remove the hubs to replace the seals. My second D-200 from a year later does have the tubes over the axle shafts. The overall spec for the tractor changed between the two years with different decals, different rear wheels so might be linked to that.

I've never made up my mind as to their purpose, perhaps to keep dirt and water away from the shaft and seals, but they do make the axle look more substantial so part of me wonders if it wasn't also for visual effect also.
