pfrederi 17,635 #1 Posted February 16, 2014 The Electro12 with plow and the 418A with the blower have been getting a real workout. Today was no exception. Because of the wind blowing is time consuming, but I am running out of room to push with the plow. I make a few fast passes with the plow and then make one pass with blower. Also have had to dig into some furrows left by my Case VAC and back blade. I noticed that the drive belt on the 418 would slip a bit today. I assumed it had to do with the snow getting on the belt. I was finished and was backing her into the workshop when it broke. Only had to roll it about 8 feet. A few minutes earlier and I would have been a quarter mile form the shop. Sometimes you do get lucky!!! Hope my dealer has one in stock tomorrow, the white stuff just keeps coming.
AMC RULES 37,125 #2 Posted February 16, 2014 You're right. The snow volume, and maintenance issues are putting a hurt on all things mechanical this year.
Tim 97 #3 Posted February 16, 2014 I'm on borrowed time with the drive belt I have on a 314 I use for plowing I know it and never really think about it until I read stuff like this it's like you remember you need wipers when it starts raining...

doc724 925 #5 Posted February 16, 2014 Another good thing to remember is to keep your spare belts where you keep your winter tractor. I have not had this problem, knock on wood, but I keep thinking about my spare blower belt-out in the shed. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
ericj 1,578 #6 Posted February 17, 2014 i loaded my 520-H and 44" 2 stage blower in the bed of my truck and went down to my brothers and help him make a path to get his full restored 71 charger back into the shed when he brings it home from the philly auto show tonight. went through over a tank of gas but the old horse got it done. on the way down to his place all i could think of was if the old blower belt would hold up because of course i left the new spare belt at home i keep it down in the basement with all of my other spare parts. lucky it made it but i believe it was slipping pretty good. i was going through 18" plus and the old horse just powered right through. it just never stops to amaze me what it is capable of doing it is one snow eating machine eric j
Hodge71 664 #7 Posted February 17, 2014 Boy I hear ya Paul…The Charger 12 needs a drive belt something fierce, but that little tractor is pushing snow like a tank. Today I got the 18 Auto back up and running with a temporary wheel and hopefully my chains will be here tomorrow as it really doesn't push the heavy piles too well. Its ok til the ags start slipping then it just spins…. another 6 inches on the way for tomorrow here...
pfrederi 17,635 #8 Posted February 17, 2014 If you look closely in the center of the picture (click to enlarge) you can see me and the 418 clearing the way to my mother in laws trailer. The horse had cleared all the way and I had come home when it broke. If it had died up there I would have been a very unhappy camper!!
leeave96 487 #9 Posted February 17, 2014 I clear me street with either a blade or blower. My fear with a hydro vs an 8 speed is the 8 speed is a breeze to roll. Not sure I want to push the 520H back to the house!
