Nascar - Sprint unlimited

Recommended Posts

Well boys and girls here is another topic that brings some thought to mind. What do you guys think of all the rule changes? What do you think of the way they now qualify? Here's a biggy, what do you think of the #3 car being brought back to life. I thought they said we wouldn't ever see another #3 car? Pretty sure I am not the only one here into the Nascar scene. I am a Ford fan, yes I stand behind Roush racing. They shouldn't have let Matt Kenseth go, which more less bum me out. Well enough of my jabber jaw. What have you guys got to say?

#3 is/was Richard Childress' number, I have mixed emotions of it coming back but  I think that sooner or later it was going to come back and since it it RC's grandson and he has always used grampa's number. It's appropriate that Austin Dillon is the one to bring it back to cup racing, he is a very talented and motivated young man and I think he will do a good job of representing everything the 3 stands for.

Hope to see a good season also. Personally do not care on #3.....some people take things over the top IMO. Definitely not a Johnson fan, he does seem to win though. My guy Stewart was out early last year, so it was a little odd watching Mark Martin and Dillon racing the #14, I also like Newman, but no luck there either. I went with my boys driver as the season went on, Kenseth, who did do a nice job. I really do like a bunch of the drivers, but REALLY dislike some also.

I grew up  a open wheel fan, spent a lot of time at the sprint races in the mid-west. Then a lot of Indy racing and tracks they went to. I married a gal that is a big Stock car fan. I think NASCAR had to do something because of the big debacle of last year with the Michael Waltrip Racing thing. I myself am loosing interest because the same cast of characters keep winning. Both series of racing need to get away from this cooking cutter cars. I like it better when who could make the better mouse traps wins. Give them a set of parameters to stay within and let them design away. As for the number 3 returning I don't have a problem with it. I never like Earnhart anyway. The number belongs to RCR  and I believe that Richard has a right to do with it what he wishes. I do think it's time to let Dale Earnhart die and let the man Rest In Peace.

Well of course a Ford fan here. I was a Dale Jarret fan until he went belly up(driving a toyota) also at that time, I pulled for Mark Martin when he was driving the  #6. Liked even when he wasn't in the #6. From what they have said last night he wasn't even at the track. Probably out racing with his son who's coming up thru the ranks right along with Chase Elliott who racing ARCA which is like under Nationwide series. It's going to be a fun week with alot of racing. Even the twin 125's or is it 150's now not real sure but they are also going to run at night this week. Truck racing you name it Speed weeks is back shall we say some relief theres something on TV to watch oh, Drag racing started last week, we'll let someone else pick that one up. All I've heard all week is John Force going to do it again!!! #3 to me is No big deal. I have had friends quit watching because of his death going it's not the same. Ok enough is enough, of my ranting. See ya, bye

Used to go to Pocono untill they started making us camp about 5 miles from the track. Then the built a bunch of buildings in the infield so you couldn't see the backstretch. Was a big Waltrip fan. Had a big sign on the side of the truck camper driving down rt. 81 saying "Anybody but Allison" What a hoot that was. Fire works in the campground were like a war zone!  :)

Kenny Schrader fan myself, going to miss having him on the track.

The one thing I was most impressed by in the Sprin Unlimited was how Joey Chiwood III managed to have the pace car catch fire!!!! His Grandfather was a real showman and I know he had to look down with amazement at the show his Grand son put on. Two years ago they exploded a jet dryer, now a blazing pace car; what will the boy do next? I can hardley wait!!  :ROTF:

I'm liking Nascar season as well. Not too thrilled about plate races though. Kind of boring until the end. Then you realize that nobody can pass anyhow without help. 480 miles of wasting your time to race 20 laps. I've been to Daytona a couple of times, but the best tracks I've been to were Martinsville, Bristol, and Darlington. When the kids get a little older, am hoping to take them to see good racing like that. We had a party at my house back in the day when Earnhart crashed. We actually all cheered just rooting against the bad guy. Sad, and it changed Nascar for sure though. My wife, back then my girlfriend, picked Jimmie Johnson as a rookie, and has like him ever since. She got to meet him a couple of times with autographs as well. He and Chad are awesome together without question. People didn't like Tiger Woods or the Yankees for a while when they were winning either. It is history in the making though. I was a big Jeff Burton fan, but now I just like the racing. :auto-swerve:

If you're getting burned out on the cup races you should take a look at the rolex24 and that series of road racing, totally different type of racing, they run a 3.56 mile circuit at Daytona for 24 hrs.

I followed the Man in Black since the mid 80's. I even had the black Monte SS in my garage.  IMO the #3 should STAY retired as a sign of respect. I think Childress should have kept his word when he said long ago that the number was retired. I don't care if Austin Dillion is his grandson and I don't care whether or not he can drive, he ain't worthy of that number. I don't even know why Dillion would want that number. He can't fill them boots as it will always be Earnhardts number. I don't have much use for most of these drivers nowadays other than Dale Jr. Tony Stewart and I'll even include Jeff Gordon, who I've grown to respect thru the yrs. Most of my type of old school drivers are now retired. Got no use for Jimmy Johnson as a driver. Sure, he can drive a little but he has had the same crew chief and has raced for the same team for his entire career. You get to see just how good a driver really is when he has to go thru some serious changes and until that happens no one will ever know just how good he really is. When was the last time you seen Jimmy win with a junk or mediocre car?

Nascar hasn't been the same for me since guys like Junior Johnson, Bud Moore & Hoss Ellington got out of it. I remember chatting with Juinor at Martinsville waiting for the Busch cars with the howling V-6's to finish up, rooming next door to J.D. Mcduffie at Dover  and eating pizza with Bud in the pits at Pocono.

I watched NASCAR in the days of TNN doing the coverage, when the announcers knew what they were talking about and only when there was something to talk about. After the France family went for the big money and took the attitude of " we own it and half the tracks so we will change everything and anything at any time with no regard to what you have already spent for the last mindless change" I pretty much quit watching. The races now are IROC races with spec cars, half the talent and drummed up drama from the announcers. Off my :angry-soapbox:  now, :text-imsorry: .
