dagwoodz 1 #1 Posted January 19, 2014 I have a cub cadet and a Bollens with a cub rear end. I pull both in the 1050 stock class. I want to move up to what we call limited sport stock. Rules are open for chassis and sheet metal. Engines are stock bore and stroke 12 hp. Unlimited rpm with a stock Kohler carb and stock ignition. 23 inch tires. Everybody I know are building Cubs. I pull a Bolens cause I like to be different. I want to build something different for sport stock. Not just a reskinned cub. My questions are... I know the 8 pinion WH rears will hold the HP. What about the RPM? Are the gear ratios close enough for various track conditions? Or will I have to change pullies? Clutch? Any insight will be appreciated. baerpath 517 #2 Posted January 19, 2014 For what your looking at a class a WH 8 pinion will be fine. Gearing would be pulley swaps or variable pitch pully on the engine and a change of the rear pulley. bmsgaffer 2,043 #12 Posted February 27, 2014 Cincinnati, OH. Yea mine is 1 1/8" axles as well. I would be willing to part the engine separately if you need a 12 horse to build. It doesn't smoke at all and runs great (been using it to plow this winter). The carb throttle bushing needs to be replaced though. dagwoodz 1 #13 Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) I got the c-81 today. According to toro parts viewer the 1978 is a 4 pinion. The 1979 is an 8 pinion. Mine has 1 1/8 axles and is a 1979. Does anyone have a photo of how the big Kohlers mount to the frame. My frame had an 8 horse in a cradle. I have a 12 with the large oil pan. WH are new to me so any help is appreciated. dagwoodz 1 #18 Posted March 12, 2014 Chris. Your puller is my inspiration. I have to use the stock frame rails so i am going to build a spacer to go between the frame and trans. Stock wheelbase is 46 inches. My rules allow me to go to 52 inches. I am going to add a 5 inch spacer and build new clutch and brake linkage. Your input is greatly appreciated. baerpath 517 #22 Posted March 13, 2014 A C 195 has a wheel base of 52.5 inches, GT14 is a little shorter I think around 51 Just sayin............... Also double up the front mount to take the stress of a full drop when weighted Check your rules that blue one wouldn't be legal here to pull.
