As I recall they originally only made push alongs which was why they became importer / distributors for WH. Just curious if this is what they replaced WHs with in their range. Andy From the age of 10 I used to cut my parents orchard with a mountfield 7 which was a rear engined rider model. That was a Briggs 7 with peerless 3 speed. My brother (raider10) has bought one and is currently restoring.... I'll see if I can get him to share some pics. I think they were rebadged Murray's from around 1980, but don't ever recall seeing any stickers other than mountfield Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Anglo Traction 761 #13 Posted January 21, 2014 Mountfield only ever produced rotary mowers, but Imported and distributed other Brands. The Garden Tractor units (of any Brand) that passed through their hands always had an Ali Plate carrying their name and lube requirements, together with a serial number (their own). This Plate often remained on the Unit over the years, when the other Decals fell off or removed. this just left the Ali Plate. In theory one ought to be able to date a tractor from the Mounfield serials added to tractors they imported but I did chase this up with Mountfield. It took patient nagging but in the end thay told me that according to their archivist the records that went with the number on the plate Richard mentioned were ditched when they moved from Maidenhead to Plymouth. I did come acros a post in an old thread on a GT forum saying that there is a guy who has the records and can date a tractor but no contact details given so it could just have been an urban legend and I have never come across this mentioned again anywhere else.
