dcrage 625 #1 Posted January 17, 2014 Saw this on an Iowa CL -- What is the bracket hanging off the front attach-a-matic for?? -- Was the blade frame flexing too much left and right??
Sparky-(Admin) 21,296 #2 Posted January 17, 2014 I think you guessed it. Its homemade and looks like its to stop the plow frame from flexing. I cant see why it would be needed, I have a few plows and they dont move left or right enough to justify adding that. Mike........
dcrage 625 #3 Posted January 17, 2014 I know mine has never flexed that much -- Maybe the snow banks are that much bigger in Iowa than in east central MO
bowtieguy 334 #4 Posted January 17, 2014 Would be interesting to see what the rear axle bracket looked like...must be a problem there??
daveoman1966 3,745 #5 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) My guess.... The owner has a rear implement such as a moldboard plow, cultivator, or disc that he wants to raise / lower independently of the dozer blade, using a single hyd lift system (as is on the 520H). That bracket MAY be used to hold the floating dozer blade in the full UP position while he can raise / lower the rear attachment, without letting the dozer blade down at the same time. In other words, he uses this to NOT push dirt on the front end while plowing dirt at the rear end. Edited January 17, 2014 by daveoman1966
dandan111 31 #6 Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) I know if you just have a chain for the lift it makes it real loose left to right. He may of bought it and didn't realize he needed that strap steel for the lift. I tried to get by with just a chain one time and it was loose as a goose. Only thing holding it strait is the back bracket. Edited January 20, 2014 by dandan111
steve k 82 #7 Posted January 20, 2014 does it hold the plow up when the tractor is parked? my grandfather put something similar on his horse so the weight of the plow wasn't always on the lift cylinder, but the blade was still up so it could be pushed around the garage. RJMcEachern 18 #8 Posted January 21, 2014 To me it looks like it is to hold the blade down, not necessarilty to keep it from flexing. When I plow our driveway and am pushing snow in front of me with the blade straight, it has a tendency to want to ride up on bigger snow banks.... just a thought RJMcEachern
bubbacola 8 #9 Posted January 21, 2014 The hitch on my tractor gets used alot. center mount blade in the summer and roto tilling and the snow blade in the winter. I need a new hitch the slots in my hitch are worn bigger an have a lot of slop.. I notice this year that when I push snow that the blade wanders a good 4 inches side to side so I have been thinking of doing something like that to keep blade centered... or just get a new hitch
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #10 Posted January 21, 2014 By accident one day I left the front blade stabilizer on my 518xi disconnected. I had been checking something on the front end. I got on the tractor and started moving when I noticed that the blade was swinging side to side. Evidently Toro must have recognized that there was a problem with 7 more inches of wheelbase on the 5xi and added it. It is part number 100-3367. Just my . 6.0 powerstroke 62 #11 Posted January 24, 2014 could always send a message through cl to ask him what it is , or better yet- buy it , then ask
squonk 41,010 #12 Posted January 24, 2014 I agree with RJ. There is a chain on the lift. I think that bracket is to hold the blade down.
brandonozz 168 #13 Posted January 24, 2014 Well, from all the ideas as to what this "thing" on the front attachment can do... everyone might need to fab one! Hold the blade up when in transit, hold the blade down for extra down pressure and keep the blade from pushing side to side. Looks like it can do it all based on the placement of the lower horizontal bar and wouldn't be hard to get it fabbed up and tuned to your tractor. Looks like something a Red Square member would come up with!
