RJ-58, looking for a price

Recommended Posts

jwl

Ya I know, talking about prices is unpopular and varies a lot from place to place. As I deal mostly in two wheeled walking tractors, ones with 4 don't get many second looks from me. However, since I already own 2 Pond walkers, the next logical step would be to get an RJ35 or 58. So now that I have found one, sort of, what are the going prices?? This tractor has been gone though, has real nice paint and new tires. Thanks to all those brave enough to suggest a starting place.

I would say $600 to $1000 range for a 1958 in great shape.

Prices are all over the place, I've sold a few RJ's that I restored for well over a grand. I've been offered near that for a nice early original RJ 58 that I have but I'm holding onto that one, for now. IMO real nice originals are worth more and are harder too find. The quality and accuracy of the restoration plays a big part in its value. Nice paint isn't rocket science, not to toot my horn but on my worker tractors I can get Rustoleum to look like high dollar automotive paint...  What kind of paints did he use? If I were spending that kind of money I'd want to know. Pics would help quite a bit...

IMO $1000 is alot for a RJ58 in almost any condition. To hit that number it has to be a super nice clean orginal.

Nice restored examples or semi beat up orginals with the belt guard.... I'd say $500 to $800

IMO I agree more so with VinsRJ,, in this area (NE OHIO) $500.00 I think is at the top for a nice 58

Ok, thanks for the good info. I'm looking to trade one of my tractors for an RJ, so now I at least know the ballpark.

I agree with ya Vin, I wouldn't buy one for a grand (or more) but I'd sell one at that price, and I have. I did sell a very nicely restored RJ awhile back for 1200.00  The body work and paint were perfect with quality paints having been used. I rebuilt the entire diff. all new tires, NOS shower head muffler, perfect belt guard and heat shield. I put an NOS K91 on it that I had "In Stock." I think it was a fair deal for both of us but in all honesty, I wish I kept that one. I personally think each tractor is case sensitive as far as value goes. What one guy may consider a restored tractor another guy may consider it nothing more than a spray bomb special.

So if they sell for up to a grand they go for up to a grand.  Just someone else bought it!

If it were the UK,  an original would  sell for around $2000  as they are ultra rare here & a 401 suburban sold on Ebay for $2000 last year .

Looking for the measurements for items #69 mounting bracket and #79 lifting rod. So that I could fabricate and be able to install on my RJ59. Any pics of the mounting bracket would be a big help.
