My new SK-486

Well, mine definitely has a 48 inch deck, not a 42. I have all of the original paper work for it as well as service records. I wouldn't be surprised at all though if WH put some 42 inch decks on some just to use up what was there at the time and get them out the door. Of course a dealer could have always changed something also.

ID tag on the deck reads 05-48MS02 and its exactly 48 inches from wheel to wheel on the deck.

If i'm not mistaken the cut width goes by the blade length.  Measure one of the blades from tip to tip diagonally.  Maybe someone else can chime in on that one.

According to partstree.com that model number puts it at a 1982 48 inch deck.

I like the looks of that tractor.  Like somebody said not too many of them around.  I would hold on to that one.  Dont put it in the water, game warden will write you a ticket.  Some rod holders would look nice :happy-jumpeveryone:

You're right about the deck being 48". The easy way to tell is the placement of the height adjuster. Sitting on the tractor, if the adjuster is on your left side the deck is a 48". If it is on your right side the deck is a 42".

Thanks, it certainly looked like a 48 inch to me. I went out and double checked it after reading the previous posts. lol

I keep going to the garage to see if it has shown up here yet and is mating with my SK486. Yours looks so much nicer I think the offspring would look good.

I was always partial to the looks of the c160 and didn't even know this tractor existed but ooooh this is a fine fine looking horse. I think I have a new fav or at least tied with the raider 14 - love that pinstripe down the hood! Great looking machine! More pix!!!

Thanks for the comments guys (and thank you especially Harold, it was fun meeting you and discussing wheel horses!). There is truly a good group of people here who enjoy this fun hobby.  I will try to get some more pictures of it soon, and from the other sides as well.

It was bought on June 18th 1983 for $2046.96 Ironically it was bought from Giant's Enterprises here in Ionia where I live, which is no longer in business.

Quick picture I snapped from the drivers seat earlier today. The glare was too strong for any other pics to turn out worth a darn. It's not a very good quality picture from my cell phone. The tractor is a little dusty also.

It really does look a lot better in person. When the weather gets warmer and I can give it a nice bath and polish, I will take some real good pictures with a quality camera to post.

The glare isn't nearly as bad on these pictures. I took these right before I changed the gear shifter knob back to original.

JD and BOWTIE, those are two mighty fine looking tractors you have there! JD, I really don't see how I could bring myself to using that tractor of yours to do any work with. Seriously that would be my ride to the mailbox tractor.

YES IT IS THE ORIGINAL PAINT. THE TRACTOR HAS 1300 HRS ON IT NOW.  I USE IT ABOUT 20-25 HOURS A YEAR NOW JUST TO CLEAN UP LEAVES.
