diggerjames 64 #176 Posted April 8, 2014 After reusing the original head lights which both worked one of them blew I was going to use LEDs but It wouldn't looked right so I've done some digging in my mates part stores who like my self restore old tractors especially David brown and Case International and has look would have it they are exactly the same as db 990 ,885 etc. I've put on the original box on for part no reference hope this helps anybody cheers James Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

To put prices in perspective, as a Toro / Hayter part they were about £18 each a couple of years back when I was doing my first D. In the US as a GE lamp rather than Toro part they were about $5 each. As I had had three tractors using them at the time, four now, I decided to import a box of ten which ended up costing me just under a tenner each including shipping and import duty. I thought it would be a lifetime's supply but I'm down to just a couple now so may do it again. The odd thing about the GE bulbs is that they are 12 volt rated as opposed to 14 volt and in the GE spec the life expectancy at 14 volt falls dramatically to just a few hundred hours though of course they run brighter. They also seem to crack easily at the back, not a problem with the rubber mountings used on a D series but it's an issue with the 300 series tractors etc where a metal tab holds the unit in place. If it's anything but a light pinch to secure the lamp then after extreme cold in winter you can find the glass has cracked. Andy Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

rtfbg 744 #185 Posted April 13, 2014 You're way ahead of me James ... my teardown is complete ... and my first step of rebuild is just finished ... since I'm doing man 18" frame stretch, the first thing I had to do was stretch the drive manifold. Got it back from the welder today ... all set for install, but the frames not ready yet!!
