Nathan21 0 #1 Posted January 2, 2014 hi everyone, ive never tried a forum before, but here goes. ive got a 64 wheel horse 854 with kohler 8hp. tractor has old starter/generator. i installed a new delco voltage regulator when i restored it, but i cant figure out how to wire it up correctly with a volt gage replacing the ammeter, and also using a starter solenoid. the starter side works perfect and the tractor runs, but i cant get it to charge for me, its getting old charging the battery every time i need to use it. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks! gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,119 #3 Posted January 2, 2014 Wiring diagram is in the manual When you remove an ammeter just join the 2 wires together and insulate the connection. The voltmeter should be wired to the ignition wire going to the coil so it is off when the key is off. The other voltmeter wire is grounded. Sounds like you have the solenoid working. Nathan21 0 #7 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) factory wiring diagram wont help, because i have done away with the ammeter and added a starter solenoid. what is confusing me is where to wire all this field and armiture stuff, also the voltage regulator has three terminals, an A, F, and batt, not sure what to do with any of them to get it to charge. was hoping someone with antique electrical systems could point me in the right direction. thanks again yall. the girlfriend is here, ill have her show me how to show a pic. hahaha, she just pointed out, theres a pic of me on the tractor right next to the name. rmaynard 15,676 #8 Posted January 3, 2014 (edited) I don't know if this helps, but here is a diagram that is modified to show various configurations. First is with ammeter, and no solenoid.
