Theroundhousernr 590 #1 Posted December 31, 2013 Hello, I am new to this forum but I want to say thanks for everybody's help. I know I never asked any questions but its been a major help for quick answers and locating manuals and such. I always have appreciated these forums. Anyway , I dug my gt14 out of storage. Its been sitting for the past 10 years. I got busy with life and had no need for it. Now I have a house with a nice long driveway and got tired of shoveling real quick. I brought it home 2 weeks ago and got started. I tore down the motor figuring it would need a good once over. Things I have done so far are: - soaked and rebuilt carb - New fuel lines and filter - changed oil - new plug - rewired completely ( it was a mess ) - tested solid state ignition trigger and coil - New battery - adjusted valves After all this, I pushed it out of the garage and it fired on the first try. Sounds great and no clunks or tapping. Moving along , I replaced the belt and drove around the yard with no issues. It was a little stiff at first but plenty of power and running like normal after a minute or two. So off I went to buy a Toro trans filter and dexron ATF. While I was looking for the filter part number I stumbled across a thread about a transaxle over heating on a gt14. One of the members asked if he had the fan mounted on the pulley from factory. He had his but I never took notice mine was missing. We only used it in the cold winter months and it never overheated or gave us issues. SO THE BIG QUESTION. Does anyone have this tin fan? I have the single pump pulley. Not the double pulley for the rototiller. It is a single pulley on a smooth shaft with a key. No splines. I believe the fan mounted between the pulley and the pump. I can see the two set screws where it attached. Mine must of flew off years and years ago before I owned it. I plan to use this in the summer months now also and would really love to find this piece. I'm not looking for a freebie. I am willing to pay for the part and shipping. Thanks A lot Kyle
Stigian 1,234 #2 Posted December 31, 2013 Hi Kyle welcome to When I first got my GT-14 it was fitted with a very worn (loose on the pump spindle) pulley thingy with no fan that also ran a rotavator. I replaced it with a 4 speed Raider 10's trans pulley that has built in cooling fans.. I've no idea how big it is compared to a genuine GT fan, but so far it's shifting enough air to keep the trans cool.. Of course the cooler UK weather might be helping with it. Theroundhousernr 590 #3 Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks for the welcome. I have thought about doing just what you said but I'm not sure which pulleys will fit , or the diameter. Also as you said, will it move enough air. I was hoping some fellow gt14 collector would have the original tin fan, or no of a suitable replacement. Thanks Kyle
Theroundhousernr 590 #4 Posted December 31, 2013 OK so quick update. I had some time to pressure wash the rear end and drain the trans fluid. To my surprize there was only a little over a quart of oil in the transaxle. YIKES. After looking at the pulley , it is the same one pictured up above on Stigians gt14. However it looks as though a fan still mounted to the back between the pulley and pump. I say this because there is little allen screw on the back of the pulley. So I feel a a little better that it has some airflow atleast. It took forever just to get the pump to become warm to the touch today. Is having the cast fan pulley good enough or should I keep looking for a aluminum fan or figure out something else?? Like I said it has never gave me problems but then again I never worked it hard in the summer months. Also, does anyone know, was this a factory setup with aluminum fan and cast fan pulley used together? Thanks Alot Kyle
953 nut 55,991 #5 Posted January 1, 2014 My GT14 has the same built in fan. I have had no overheating problems and have worked it very hard a few times with the front end loader. One other thing,

Theroundhousernr 590 #9 Posted January 1, 2014 Here are some photos for you guys. Nothing special. I have quit a few restored tractors. This one will be the next. The John Deere A in my profile pictures is one of mine. For right now, this will be a worker. I need to find a parts tractor before I repaint this one . I need half the transaxle because this one is broke off at the hitch. The dash support someone cut with a torch for some unknown reason. Also a few other things. So for me, in order to justify a piant job , I will need to collect a few parts yet. Then I will tear down completely and paint. I really like this model and I think it warrants a full restoration. In these pictures the trans in refilled , new filter and working great. Im surprized that the axle seals are not leaking. I guess I got lucky. Now Im going to put on my chains and get ready for the northeastern storm coming that know body knows how many inches we will get. Happy New Years Kyle

Theroundhousernr 590 #11 Posted January 4, 2014 Thanks everyone. Got about 7 inches of snow last night. The wheel horse ran well and performed well after its 8 year long hibernation. I was very pleased and glad I did a full maintenance and tune up before using it. It was sitting outside in the driveway under a tarp waiting for the first snow. I walked out this morning, in the 14 degree weather and it fired right up. I let it warm up a bit and then let it rip. Never missed a beat and pushed the snow no problem. For now, It seems like many of you have no trouble with the cast fan pulley so I will leave it alone for now. I hope I can find the tin fan one day. Never hurts to have a little more air flow. Thanks Kyle
