4 bolt hub idea. What think?

After reading about putting on bolt on hubs, with tapered roller bearings, it got me thinking.

I may have deck clearance, and had an idea. Instead of boring out the stub axles, I was thinking of welding them to the front sides of the cut down axles.  This would move them 3/4" forward.

Wondering if this might screw up the steering?  It's for a 414-8, that now has 6" rims, and a 42" rd deck.

Would there be any advantage, in making the track an inch or two wider, while I'm at it?

One advantage of welding the stub axle to the orig. ie I don't have a lathe, but have a welder!

Thanks for any info.
