What’s it worth.

Model 23A Horizontal Engine. Believed to be 9 Hp.????

Believed to be a 1959. One owner for the last 54 years.

Came of a wood splitter. Seasonal use equals LOW HOURS.

Sediment bowl and shout off valve have new seals installed.

Cold engine cylinder pressure 105.

Warm / Hot cylinder pressure 95 - 96.

Model 23A Type 703025 S/n 649437

One engine mount is broken off. See picture.

Starts real good runs good. Currently carb is out of adjustment. Running a little rich, puts out a little BLACK smoke when you rev it up. Any ideas on its worth will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a video of me starting it up and running it for a minute.

IMO they are not worth too much, 100 bucks, maybe. That doesn't mean they are a crappy engine, they are an excellent engine. I had a 58 Economy with a bucket loader on it with the 9hp Briggs. That engine was NEVER rebuilt and it had a ton of hours on it. She smoked a little and yet she still ran real smooth and still had enough power too work that big tractor with that bucket loader on it. I worked the HELL out of that machine, I wish I still had it.

I see you have some Allis Chalmers tractors. I had a real sweet Allis Chalmers B10, I wish I still had that one too!

I've bought 5 model 23's in the past year or so. I'm in the process of doing a restore that uses a 23FB and have been collecting perfect tins etc. Point being - the most I've paid for any of them was $100 for one. The others were 50-75 respectively. All ran. The broken engine mount kinda sucks in my opinion - but you can just swap those bottom oil pan plates with four bolts if you get another one - at least the 23FB is that way - I imagine the 23A is the same.

Thanks for the response. Just about ever other day or so I give the old Briggs two pulls on the rope. I just like to hear it run.

I might just hang on to it. It will fit into one of my Allis Chalmers  if I need it.    I do have a spare bottom pan from  a old blown up 10 Hp out of my B110.
