post-12204-0-52206200-1386651883.jpgpost-12204-0-86951800-1386651828.jpgHi, I have a 1993 toro wheelhorse 520h tractor with hydrostatic drive and a 48 inch single stage snowblower attachment.  My problem is the end of the lift bar that goes under the snowblower attachment is just held on with a washer and cotter pin.  The back end of the bar go to the hydrostatic unit.

When I back up with the unit and I forget to lift the snowblower unit, the cotter pin breaks and the bar falls off.  It seems to break off too easily.  Has anyone else had this problem and did you figure out another solution on how to attach the bar to the snowblower attachment?

Thanks for any ideas you may have.

I have added a couple of pictures of this unit.  I took it in on trade for some other equipment.  I going to put it up for sale, I really don't have any use for this.  It is in great condition with only 900 hours on it.post-12204-0-67903700-1386651803.jpg

That happened to me also until I determined the cotter pin used should have a 3/16" diameter. Is that what you are using?

Adding

The 3272-10 cotter pin listed for the 1993 snowthrower is 1/8" diameter so maybe that is not the problem.

Garry,

Thanks for the quick response.  I'm not sure of the size of the cotter pin.  I just replaced the same size that was in there when I purchased the tractor a year ago.  I have tried a couple of other size pins and they all seem to fail.

I was wondering if a roll pin would work better or if there is something else I could use.  I usually blow snow around a complete city block where I live and it always breaks down when I am not close to my garage.  It's a real pain to change it when you are out in the deep snow.

I had the problem plus the end of the post with the hole was wearing down. I cut about 1/2 inch from a steel pipe drilled a hole placed it over the post and used it as a protector for the post

thanks for your idea, but I guess I can't quite picture in my mind exactly what you did.  did you slide a piece of pipe over the flat end of the bar that goes under the snowblower attachment?

I use a two-stage blower now, and dont have this problem.

I had a single stage, and it had been modified with a much heavier clevis pin.

Backing it up over a steel drain grate caused me to bend the crap out of the linkage.

It is better to just break the cotter pin
