grinchsr 634 #1 Posted December 9, 2013 JUST PICKED UP A 96 312-8 WITH A 3 SPOKE STEERING WHEEL ON IT. I SEE PICS OF 312'S WITH 2 SPOKE WHEELS. THIS WHEEL IS NOT TIGHT ON THE SHAFT WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE IT IS NOT THE CORRECT ONE. I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT WHICH WHEEL IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BORN WITH. doc724 925 #2 Posted December 9, 2013 It appears that Toro used both styles for the 96 model. If your wheel is loose, it may be that the roll pin which holds the wheel to the steering shaft is either worn (doubtful), or the metal insert which is molded into the steering wheel has become loose. The roll pin actually holds the metal insert tight to the shaft, the plastic wheel has a clearance hole for the roll pin.

grinchsr 634 #5 Posted December 9, 2013 Looks like 1996 312-8 model 73362 uses 2-spoke wheel #78-3100 1996 312-8 model 73363 uses 3-spoke wheel #98-1473 described as 15". Garry Thanks. I could have sworn this was not the original wheel, but it looks like it is. The larger wheel does feel a bit awkward (high and close), some combination of that and the seat position feels all wrong. I next need to take a close look at the seat bracket.
