flyovrcntry 115 #1 Posted December 2, 2013 OK I have a 417-A with 23x950-12 tires. I just got this crapsman with 24x12-12.They both have 5 lug rims, are the going to fit on my 417 ? The other thing is I just bought a new set of chains that say they will fit 23x1050-12. So what do you say, will it all fit?
Tim 97 #2 Posted December 2, 2013 there are a couple of things to worry about if you swap the rims - do the lug holes line up, -what is the offset of the rims? will the tires hit the rear end or sick out too far if you swap tires, is there clearance under the fenders? is there clearance for chains? I don't think WH put tires that big on these tractors, my gut says something will not fit right
rustyoldjunk 127 #3 Posted December 2, 2013 The bolt pattern is the same. Offset could be an issue. I am pretty sure the 24's will fit fine under the fenders but it might make it very tight with chains. You could use spacers to raise the seat pan slightly. meadowfield 2,570 #4 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) offset is trickier with the rear mounted tank. I had to change the centres on mine to get clearance with 10" rims Edited December 2, 2013 by meadowfield
squonk 41,010 #5 Posted December 3, 2013 I put 23x10.50x12 AG's on my C-145. After installing chains they hit the gas tank. I got some wheel spacers from Advance Auto and got some longer wheel studs. Now they clear.
Coadster32 793 #6 Posted December 3, 2013 Love the look of the "fatties" on the back as shown by Meadowfield. Good fab job on the alteration as well. (Although I do think Squonk's approach might be a bit easier)
squonk 41,010 #7 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Here's kinda how the spacers fit. I think I used 7/16" X2" fine bolts for studs: Edited December 3, 2013 by squonk
boovuc 1,090 #8 Posted December 4, 2013 Another thing to watch out for if you intend to mow come Spring and Summer is a fatter tire interfering with your mower deck. Most fatties don't but some are close enough to hit the tire lightly.
flyovrcntry 115 #9 Posted December 5, 2013 I put one of them on, It fit ok, too close to the tank though.I only had about 1/2" clearance, If the tires were newer,I would put a spacer in,but their just not worth it.I had just bought new chains and would have to modify them. At this point if I do anything I will probably buy some new 10.50's and my chains will work ok
mrc 810 #10 Posted December 6, 2013 hello sir, just a suggestion but when i need to raise the seat pan i use hockey pucks. cheap, durable and easy to drill. regards mike in mass.
Jrblanke 857 #11 Posted December 7, 2013 That is a great suggestion! Plus they are black and would blend in better than painted wood and hold up better than a cutting board, I suppose.
