clipflip 10 #1 Posted November 28, 2013 I decided to go for it and pick her up! I think at $180 it was a steal! It runs perfectly and starts right up! BUT, it smokes pretty bad. The cylinder is in good shape, no scoring. I need to hone it out to .10 over and it needs a new piston and rings. Im not even going to touch the carb cause its perfect. PS... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!! clipflip 10 #13 Posted November 28, 2013 Well the rear pulley is 6 inches, the front is 4 and if the engine is at 3200 rpm... Rear pulley speed is 2133 rpm if the front pulley is 5 inches rear pulley speed is 2666 rpm. SO... 2133 rpm/5mph=2666rpm/ ?mph = 6.2 mph This shouldnt cause loss of power at all! and 1mph gain! Is it possible to put a 1"bigger pulley on the engine just to get a bit more speed? it feels like these are very slow in 3rd compared to a cub... i did it with a c125 of mine. put a hydro front pulley on the engine in place of the 8 speed one. the larger k301 has a 1 1/8 shaft though and since you would have a 1" on the k181 you would need to find another way. while it does increase the ground speed considerably, i don't think i would do it with an 8 hp engine. the k301 has more torque and makes it easy to get moving with that gearing. not sure what cub you are referring to, but i couldn't gear my c125 any where near enough to have the same ground speed as my cub cadet 682. the gearing on the cub is much taller and therefore faster. i think most wheel horses around the same vintage and size as yours (except for those models with the eaton 1100 with the taller gearing) had basically the same ground speed......
