Lars 526 #1 Posted November 27, 2013 Hey.. i have done some upgrade on the horse and put on 4 bolt's on the front wheel's.. i have been thinking of that for a long time but never found the right part's for it.. but i finaly found a trailer hub kit that i bought... So here are som pict of what i did.. that axel was about 10 inch long so i had to cut it down to the right lenght.. and then i drilled a hole innside it about 1.5 inch and then it fit's on the original 3/4 spindel. And time to cut some more and both ready for some welding Finish whit welding time to try them on the tractor.. and as you can see they also has a greasepoint.. had some 10 inch trailer wheels that i put on so i could move the tractor and wait to ill got the other tires mounted on the rim's and finaly they are on the tractor Going to paint the rim's later dont have the time to fix that atm.. other project's whit higer priority.. Don1977 604 #3 Posted November 27, 2013 I like your engineering. I did something similar to mine 24 years ago. Had a front wheel that would not keep the bearing tight and cut up my spindle. The tires wouldn't hold air, I just changed everything. I had to tighten the right front bearing a couple of months ago is the only thing I have done since the change. fireman 1,021 #4 Posted November 27, 2013 Don't mean to hijack your thread but I did the same thing this spring but went one step further. The 3/4" original spindles are inherently weak so I added a piece of steel to beef it up so they don't bend over time. Just thought I'd add this tip for you or anyone else who plans on doing this. I've seen others do this modification without the additional support and over time they tend to bend upwards with larger or wider tires added. I also bored out the new spindles so that the entire original spindles fit down deep in them instead of cutting them short. 7 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Trouty56 565 #8 Posted November 28, 2013 All good looking end results......I surely can't build one like pacer but then he didn't have to deal with a 1" spindle......I like the the support welded onto the spindle...seems like it would help with the weight of the tractor and attachments.....nice job all...... I also remember Kevin (kpthorsefan) did the same thing in the UK Also, because they were Trailer Stub Axles, it meant narrow wheels were easily available and the Tri Ribs fitted great. 953 nut 54,999 #10 Posted November 30, 2013 A few years back I had a 3/4" spindle that was badley worn so I picked up some steel 1" OD by 3/4" ID mechanical tubing, heated the tubing to expand it and presseded it onto the bad spindles. Then I put brass bushings over that at the axle seal area. Trailer hubs went on and a fender washer and grease cup took care of the outside end. over60pirate 24 #11 Posted December 27, 2013 I have been wanting to put larger tires/wheels on my 414-8. For some reason it has 6" tires, not 8" as I hear it should. I've got a 520H with 1 inch spindles/rims and the previous owner managed to run-over one of the front wheels with a big farm tractor, so the rim is massively bent and un-useable. I've been looking for another 1 inch spindle'd rim from a donor/parts 520H, but have been unsuccessful and have been thinking about doing the 4 bolt hub/rim deal. Problem so far is - I can't really find a hub that will just slide over the 1 inch shaft on my Wheelhorse. Most are 1-1/16 inch or bigger. Thanks! Kelly 1,029 #13 Posted December 28, 2013 This swap is real easy on a 520 with the swept axle no mods at all, Moat trailer shops will carry 1" hubs my local TSC has them, only thing I had to buy extra was a few 1" shim washers so when the castle nut was adjusted a cotter pin fit in the slots in the nut, then I bought golf cart rims that are 5 3/8" wide like the stock rims, these are centered for the offset but you can get other offsets, I have done this to a couple 520's, well axles that is, this set up is on my C-195 diesel project but has a 520 axle in it. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The smallest diameter hub TCS had was 1-1/16 and the smallest hub I could find at northern tool was 1 inch, but the seal diameter was 1-1/4. The seal diameter on my 520H spindle is 1-1/8. flyovrcntry 115 #19 Posted December 30, 2013 You guy's that do machine work amaze me.I am a pretty fair mechanic,mostly taught by my dad and uncle,and of course trial and a lot of errors.My father-in-law was a machinist for a steel co.He had a little shop at home and it was surprising what he could do.Folks would come to him to make parts for their old farm tractors and implements that were obsolete.This was before ebay and sites like this were here to find parts.He was a good man,I never thougt about it at the time,but I know he never charged them enough for what he did.
