You'll notice Danny riding around on his 52 Bantam as well. His philosophy is, if dads getting some seat time, he should too. He's a real chip off the ol block. Oh yeah, it was gorgeous today Martin. 70 degrees, clear blue skies. Shoot, I even managed to work up a sweat cleaning the carport. While our winter is much nicer, you wouldn't like our Summers. eb in oregon 28 #87 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) Oh, by the way, I did end up removing the inner seal on the bearings, as I prefer greasing them myself. This is just an opinion, but with the outer seals of the bearings in place in place, once you grease the bearings, your pretty much done for life. Grease is not like water or any other lighter liquid. It does not evaporate, or "just get used up". It must be displaced (moved) for it to go away. Hence sealed bearings. Lubed for life. As long as any lubricant stays "clean," it will do it's job. When engine oil is changed it isn't because it doesn't lubricate anymore, it's because it has impurities in it. Remove the impurities and you have recycled oil. In a sealed bearing, the only debrise that can cause a problem is a piece of bearing, or bearing race, that has detached and is causing problems. Further greasing only forces grease into, and through (if there is some avenue of escape) the bearings in your application, but that won't change the situation. One thing I've learned in life is that sometimes the obvious escapes us because of preconceived ideas, or our own thoughs blind us to the obvious. My two cents.
