753 restore!!

Hey everyone. As you know I'm hot and heavy into wheel horses now and many of you have answered many of my questions and helped me TREMENDOUSLY. But I've finally decided to give my horse a paint job and I thought I'd post pictures along the way. Here's the engine cleaned,sanded, prepped and primed. This is the first thing I've done. :)

I spent some time with a spray bottle of mineral spirits, a flat- head screw driver and a wire brush drill attachment! It took some work but it cleaned up nicely. I'm going to keep the pictures coming so you can see what I'm doing and put in constructive criticism if need be! :)

Nice job! I'm in the beginning stages of a restoration also (my first) on a b 80. My engine required a re build. I cleaned it much as you did, with diesel fuel, wire brush and sand paper and decided, for some reason, to go with black on the engine, used rustoleum engine paint and it turned out really nice. I wish I could figure out how to post pictures, I'd love to share my rebuild with all the nice folks here and as you say, constructive criticism is welcome. Looking forward to following your restoration, thanks for sharing.

No problem , kudzu. Thanks for looking! I was in the same boat as you with the picture deal until a few nights ago as I'm still kind of new around here myself. I just went to the red square store and became a supporter. Well worth it to me. If you're not a supporter the picture size has to be so small.

Yes I'm using play sand haha. Its much cheaper than black diamond and it works great!

You have to watch using play sand. It will warp your sheet metal.

Play sand also has moisture in it that can remain on the stripped metal as well as clog the blaster.

I'll wipe it down with mineral spirits really well before I paint. I hand pick my bags from places that store it inside only. If its the least bit moist I don't use it. I hope that works

I know its been a while since I posted pictures but I've been hard at work on my tractor. I initially wasn't planning to go to such pains but I've ended up going all out. Here's a picture of my rusty battery box before Its fixed.

Wire brushing my trans down to metal. And I got my girlfriend to learn how to use a grinder today! Worked out pretty good.

She complains sometimes when I work on my tractor but today I said: " Ill give use one task and that's to start cleaning this trans up and you gotta help today to see what its like!" She agreed and actually had a good time haha. Plus she loved riding my reactor before I tore it into a million pieces so yes, she's a keeper .

Here's a few more pieces that got finished up today. I did my trans with a good trusty grinder and cup brush from good ole harbor freight. The other pieces I blasted using my sand blaster from harbor freight. And soon I'll paint them with my paint gun from harbor freight. Gotta love that place.

Starting to look real good Zane...and getting some help on the side...priceless.    It really is a sharing hobby...very cool.
