Martin 2,132 #180 Posted February 12, 2014 well its been a few days, I've been busy.... got a bunch of plated parts back........ so it was time to swap out some of the temporary stuff and start assembling parts. kept painting more black parts and also repainted the hood stand as i wasn't happy with it (to tell the truth here- the hood stand has been painted 4 times now since i started this build) i just wasn't happy with the shade of black and i also had an issue with some old powder that i had in storage for a few years. junk started appearing in some parts, so i ditched the box and started using our production supply at work. some of us guys that do a lot of personal work keep old inventory when its purged. sometimes it bites you using old stuff........ anyway, heres some more pics, its starting to go together slowly and I'm happy how its turning out so far..... steering all together... front tach-a-matic together with painted and plated parts. mid tach-a-matic together.... shifters painted and installed...... with new boot (part #3357) hood stand going on with replated hardware...... front axle and steering from above..... upper hoodstand on to check fit, needs to come off so upper steering shaft can be installed. i got it bolted on as it leaves less parts for me to kick around on the garage floor..... 7 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Martin 2,132 #185 Posted February 13, 2014 after pulling apart and rebuilding a few, most of the fasteners are fairly easy to tell where they came from. IPL's (illustrated parts lists) are a big help if you have absolutely no idea what size/type bolt or fastener goes where. most all IPL's are in the manual section of the forum. and sometimes i use what size/type fastener i want to and ignore what Wheel horse originally put there. if something better in my opinion is available then i will use it. I bet its going to steer fantastic with the front tires you are using and it looks like the rear tires are really going to dig in as well. I like to lay out a carpet when I'm doing a full restore as well. Its gives me something clean and warm to lay or sit on, the parts are easier to see and if you do accidentally kick a part they don't slide as easily on the carpet as they would on a slick floor. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Martin 2,132 #195 Posted February 14, 2014 guys, thanks for all the really nice comments. i just take each part as it comes and work with it. this is turning out the nicest so far, but i have better and newer parts to use as well....... this is the first time I've replated the hardware instead of buying all new, so that is different, and its kind of weird using yellow instead of clear zinc. when these were built just about all the bolts etc were yellow, with the bigger hardware being black zinc along with the odd bolt or two........ i have the opportunity to do the black as well, but I'm liking the way the yellow looks with some of the engine/pto parts on the later 315 tractors so I'm probably going to go that way..... got a little more assembled tonight. little by little its becoming a tractor again. i need to get a bunch of parts ready for another plating run, so 416 #2 (which is donating a lot of itself to this cause) will be coming apart real soon. heres some more pics..... 2 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
