Thanks Will. I am still planning on building a big barn but not right now. I am very sure this one will fill up real quick. I think it is the right size for the spot I have it. Any bigger there and it would not look right. I plan on putting a brown stain on it so it will not stick out so much.

We just fenced in the back yard all cedar fence, and we stained it as the place who installed it is also a saw mill and dry the logs for 5 years, so it could take stain right away. Anyways Ben Moore exterior stains the Alkyd (oil) based ones are awesome, easy to work with and come out great. The new waterbased stains out there now stink, dont waste your $$$$.

Just a small update on the shed. Got he fascia and soffits started. I found 2 bronze sash windows (26 x 36) so I will need to reframe but not a big deal. A local picker had two of them that are new and ever installed. I do not have pics of those yet though. Here are the pics.

I gotta get up to see that. Its been a little crazy at work the past month. If you need a hand with the roof let me know, I'm a professional, trained by a pro with a big white truck...I still owe you a pair of them fancy designer blue jeans, I just don't know where to get them! It sure does look nice, maybe once its done you can sneak on a little addition for a small work shop/hang out room? Maybe a place for a small wood stove?

Not including the roofing I think it will run me around 2500 to 3000 but I did get a deal on the siding.

I ended up getting a call by my mother of all people who tipped me off to an estate sale where they had a big barn with old windows for sale. I wanted that vintage look with old barn windows so off I went. I ended up with 3 windows that came out of the barn and will use those instead of the newer ones I got the other night. I also found a nice wood/coal stove. I started to stain the siding but need to get more to finish. Here are some more pics....

I took your advise and got the Ben Moore oil based stain. It is teak color and translucent. I just showed the windows to my mom and she said her husband was gonna double back to the estate sale and buy them tomorrow when they drop the prices. Well she needs to go home and tell hubby that I bought them. He just built a similar barn to this one and wanted to put them in it. It is all her fault for telling me about them !!

Today I was able to install the windows. Here they are...

I need to install a non combustable (fireproofing) on the walls around the stove. I bought durarock (cement board) from home depot today. Does anyone here know if that will be good enough? I will put r 30 fiberglass behind it as well. Any advise on what else others have used to make the back walls fire proof for short money. Thanks!

Yeah that would suck if it caught fire and you lost all of the horses! Why are you putting heat in there if the shed is just for storage? Once you get the horses out of the garage you'll have all that area to work in.

I really would like a place that I can go and fire up the wood stove while it is snowing and tinker and stay warm. Remember, my garage has no windows and limited light... Since you are a fireman you need to come over and help me with the stove set up... lol I went to tractor supply and they were missing 6 inch stove pipe elbows and wall thimble....

Looks like a nice size for storage!   I would love to build something that size, but local code forbids it.    10' x 12' is the max...then theres the issue of my wife throwing her 2 cent into it ....

Today I was able to get another gallon of stain on the barn. So the front, left side and back side are all done but the right side and doors will need to be done still. I also installed insulation and the 1/2 inch cement board around the stove. I finished the sides with metal.

I picked up the stove pipe at a local picker for $15. I just need one more 90, a wall thimble and a few wall mounts.... If anyone out there knows more about the wood stove piping, please chime in!!

Looks real good. When the inspector comes by he will tell you if the stove is OK or not. Also makes sure your homeowners covers the shed. I put in a 16 x 20 barn and it did. Jim

Looks great Steve. I like the old windows and stain color. (no salad dressing on the barn now ). Not sure about the stove, but pretty sure they all use double wall pipe. I believe there's a generic rating on what you buy that works fine. I'd suggest a couple of small circulating fans for when you do have the stove on though. Some guys out a pan of water on top to add a little moisture to the air as well.
