Challenger 27 #1 Posted October 9, 2013 A neighbor has a Toro Wheel Horse 5xi series tractor I'm going to buy. One problem: The draw bar attachment point cast as part of the rear axle has snapped-off. Any ideas on how some kind of replacement could be fabricated? I won't need this to tow anything heavier than a lawn sweeper.
Dieselcowboy 210 #2 Posted October 9, 2013 (edited) Yes, use the idea of the rear axle mount for a snow plow and make a hitch that mounts there and comes back where you need it. (clamps on axle) Edited October 9, 2013 by Dieselcowboy
953 nut 56,140 #3 Posted October 10, 2013 A member here has some hitches that bolt around the rear axil and adapt a 2" hitch, you can find them on ebay.

Challenger 27 #5 Posted October 11, 2013 I believe those hitches require an attachment at the very spot that is broken on the tractor. I've seen photos that look like a pair of struts connect to the cast draw bar connection point on the axle.
Kai Thomsen 17 #6 Posted October 11, 2013 I don't know if your transmission looks the same as the 8speed on my old horse, but mine was missing the drawbar thingy when i got it. Instead someone had replaced the two bolts on the rear of the trans with longer bolts and put a 1/4" thick "washer" under the bolt and nut and welded a 1/4" thick square steelplate onto the washers. Should be plenty strong to weld a hitch plate onto if you only need to pull a lawn sweeper.
