Wishin4a416 2,191 #1 Posted September 28, 2013 I picked up a parts washer today and wonder what you fellows are using that isnt flamable and cuts the grease and sludge fairly good. I have an attached garage under my home so I dont really want to use kerosene with all the sparks I sometimes make with grinders and welders. sorekiwi 761 #3 Posted September 29, 2013 I'm using Kerosene now, I used to use (and strongly prefer) Mineral Spirits but Kero is half the price and I need at least 10 gallons in my tank. I keep the lid closed when I'm not using it - keeps it clean as well as preventing sparks getting in it. Keeps the smell down too. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

KC9KAS 4,741 #5 Posted September 29, 2013 The Safety Kleen company parts washers all over the country use Mineral Spirits. Mineral Spirits come in different flammable ratings. We used to use one called 142 Solvent, which has a flash point of 142*, but are now using a product called 150 Solvent....150* falsh point. 140* is the "magic" number for the flash point for solvents according to OSHA standards. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Getting ready to drag my old HF one out that I haven't used in years and need something to put in it. I’ve also used solvent that I got a hell of a deal on but it’s hard to get ahold of the guy. The last stuff I bought was from autozone and I’m happy with it. It does need to be changed from time to time. Don’t get any of the citrus based stuff, I’ve had to use it at an old job and it sucked. Safety kleen is the best but it’s pricey.
