You have to put a plug at the bottom with a whole just small enough for the wing nut rod to go through. and the top needs to be drilled out, not sure exactly how big. The elbow you have will not work...not sure if it can be modified. The original elbows are very hard to find...there is also a bracket that will go under it to support it and will bolt to the oil pan bolt. AMC RULES 37,127 #5 Posted October 2, 2013 Instead of worrying about the govt furlough all day... I decided to focus on turning this down draft oil bath into a functioning up draft unit. Had a few people tell me it couldn't be done, but that's when I usually do my best work. Picts here pretty much tell the whole story, any questions about the process...feel free to ask. Basically, all you're doing is moving the fresh air inlet from the bottom to the top of the unit. Once completed, and filled with oil...I tested it out by letting it run un-tethered for about a half hour in the back yard while I cleaned up. Then took it out for a couple hot laps around the house, up hills, and down, high rpm's and at idle... performed flawlessly, with no runs, drips, or errors. Actually, while running...engine sounds much quieter to my ear now. Would you believe, the wife even commented on how good it sounded. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

On my son's rj58 with kohler and correct updraft it is not getting air and sometimes will just not start unless I remove the oil bath air cleaner then she fires up. They say necessity is the mother, or is a mother...I don't know which? Good eye Jason...on the temporary Power-Aid lid that I backed with a fender washer. buckrancher 2,679 #22 Posted December 29, 2013 craig I hate to say this but looking at your pictures of the top of the air cleaner cover you made the hole too big and by letting the center pipe come up thru the cover you basically shut the air flow off by allowing the top and bottom pieces to come together sealing off the air intake under the top cover between the oil cup look at the last pic's I posted of a original one Brian Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

buckrancher 2,679 #24 Posted December 29, 2013 probably because the surfaces are not flat take it off the tractor and turn it upside down and look where the two pieces come together under the top cover. Though it's hard to see...the second pict shows that while my air intake is reduced..I still have approximately 1/4" open...checked around the lids circumference...which is obviously enough to allow it to run.
