RMCIII 838 #26 Posted October 5, 2013 I'm not ready for snow yet... but I did get a good jump on fall work in the last couple days. After a very dry last few months here, we finally got a decent soaking rain last week. Not wanting to miss a chance to at least get some holes plugged from the yard, I got one run of aerating done. Not a great one, plugs were only averaging 1 1/2-2 inches. But at least it's something. Hoping that opening up a little will increase the absorption of the next good rain and I'll run it again for some deeper plugs before overseeding/fertilizing. Over the summer, I picked up an estate rake. Anyone else use one of these? I thought it would be fantastic on my large open property. I thought it worked pretty well. The nicest part overall is you never have to stop to clean the tines like I had to do with my regular dethatcher. It does a pretty good job of wind-rowing. I thought I'd go for larger windrows and would rake about 4-5 passes into one row for the sweeper. Of course I was all the way done before I realized this was a bad idea. The front of the sweeper just collected the majority of it and act like a dozer blade just dragging it all into a big pile instead of sweeping it up. So.... next year... only two passes per windrow. Hoping to get to change over to winter goodies before too much longer. I'm just not convinced that we're not due for some nice grass growing weather in early October this year. Jason, if you can find another one, they can be ganged together. But it takes some custom fab to make work properly. It will look like a "v" in the front, but your left side rear tines, should extend slightly further than the right side rear tines. Allows you to windrow 2 passes at once. For the time and additional extra $$ you spend, you will save it by reducing the number passes you make..... Just a suggestion...
RMCIII 838 #27 Posted October 5, 2013 Come on winter. Taking the deck off today. Cleaning it, getting it ready for storage. Snow blower and cab are going on next weekend. Here is something to add to this post.... Has anyone come up with a portable heater that works well once you have the cab on? Not looking to keep it toasty warm, just enough to take the chill out. Especially when you are outside for 6 to 8hrs. in the snow.

timo4352 147 #36 Posted October 10, 2013 I don't have the luxury of some of you guys - I've only got one tractor. So although the blower and plow are ready, they can't go on yet. The grass is still growing and the leaves have hardly started falling yet. Gotta get through that season first - but I will be ready when the snow hits.
nylyon-(Admin) 7,264 #37 Posted October 12, 2013 Well, the winter preparation has begun. Got the generator out of the generator shed and into the garage (easier if we lose power with snow on the ground). Put the lawn sweeper in the generator shed. Cleaned all the old grass clippings off the 414, gave it a nice quick wash. Greased everything, took off the AG's put on the Turf's with chains. Removed the mower deck, cleaned the 42"SD deck and slid it under the camper (have no other place to store it). I have 2 48" plow's, one is like new 5 position and the other is quite older 3 position. I put on the older plow because I just hate to bust up the new one, put the cover on the now plow tractor and parked under the front of the 5th wheel. There's still mowing to do tomorrow, and that's when the walk behind snow blower comes out of the shed and into the garage. Getting ready for winter a little early this year while it's still warm out. I hate doing the heavy stuff when it's freezing out!
